Thailand issues

I've been experiencing that my data (but not voice) connection keeps stopping when phone goes to sleep. Sometimes I get a pop up saying do you want to turn data roaming on (when it already IS ON), sometimes I have to restart phone to have it connect. Happens on TH GSM and AIS. Don't recall this happening last time I was here.
Tmo really is no help. Using an lg flex phone. Any ideas?

Does your phone have LTE support? Set it to 3G only.

Sounds like this is a ROM/firmware issue specific to that LG flex phone; what version of Android is on the phone?

Also try setting data roaming to OFF, then back to ON

Just wanted to report back on my experience in South America. It works in pretty much every city that I visited, although there were differences in speed and coverage, for email checking and Google Maps it was definitely sufficient. It connected automatically to Movistar in both countries.

Peru: Lima (inside airport)
Chile:
Easter Island (worked in Hanga Roa)
Santiago
Valparaiso
Vina del Mar
Punta Arenas
Puerto Natales
Puerto Montt
Puerto Varas

It even worked half of the way between Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas. It did not work in the Torres del Paine National Park, but I believe that there is just no cell phone reception within the park boundaries anyways. When I say that it's working, it's usually both the cellular service as well as 3G data at the same time. Very rarely there are spots where I got cellular phone reception, but little or no data connection.

Hope that helps! :)

First hiccup in the T-Mo global service, and it seems to be a known issue.

I could not register on SmarTone in Hong Kong and China Mobile HK would only ever be on Edge and the speeds were really slow - probably less than 64. I ended up tethering to the hotel cell phone most of the time. In Macao, data service didn't work at all. I have even bought a high speed pass, and it was rendered useless.

Worked great in Bali.

I saw the bit on Egypt above. In Egypt, without a data pass, the speeds and reception were exceptional.

I noticed this too the other day. During my last trip in October there weren't any issues, but this time I didn't get any better than EDGE on China Mobile HK.

With ATT, it is full speed; with TMobile it is throttled. I also have the Amex Boingo deal on both devices. Last month, I mounted my iPhone in a Kenu AirFrame and was driving around the UAE and was driving around streaming my music (or listening to Sirius over the internet) and running Google Maps for Navigation.

After many trips to Thailand with TMO data working fine, I ran into a similar problem in Thailand in December. I couldn't get data service to work. Samsung phone - Galaxy Grand Duos (dual SIM) -not LTE. Tried a lot of different things a lot of different times...turning phone off then on, restarting phone, turning data off and on, etc.

I did not receive any pop-ups or anything though. Voice worked fine.

Phone is set to gsm/wcdma/lte auto which seems to allow for any of the possible connections.
yes I've tried turning data off and back on.

The thing is I don't remember having this problem on previous trips. Noticed it last month in Malaysia, but others said there were issues there I general so I didn't think too much about it. Now I'm wondering if I may have done an android update just before this started and if that could be what is causing the problems. I using 4.4.2

You sure about this?

T-Mobile's own page shows only 2G or 3G in Argentina.

http://www.t-mobile.com/optional-services/roaming.html

Hmm, then again, regardless of which country I put in, it only shows 2G or 3G.

Heard elsewhere that it shouldn't be surprising their mobile infrastructure is underdeveloped.

The prepaid market only offers typically a few dozen megs a day.

When signing up for this program, I thought there was a maximum amount of time you could be out of USA. Maybe 60 or 90 consecutive days. I cannot find this limit printed anywhere. Does it exist?

It's taken me sometimes 6 attempts to get Smartone to authenticate the FIRST time (manual continual retries) - once authenticated works the entire remainder of trip no issues.

Assuming this is a backhaul auth issue to verify roaming user not working sometimes

Last time I was on a Tmobile Network was in Nov 3rd... so far I will say 60 days is not the maximum!

I think they said no more than 30 days per trip and no more than half of your total time roaming, but it's unclear that these acceptable use conditions are strictly enforced. I think it's more of a case of don't abuse the roaming perk, and there won't be problems or restrictions imposed.

I was just in Hong Kong and my phone automatically connected to the 3 network, which worked (though at 2G speeds of course).

I just arrived in Macau, and though my phone automatically connected to the 3 Macau network, and I got a text from both T-Mobile and 3 Macau, I get an error message (something about unable to authenticate) anytime I try to access data. I also tried to manually select the CTM network, and though I once again got a text message, I get the same error message.
