iPad question

So I got the new iPad as a gift and will take it with me when I fly. Looked at buying an otter box to protect it but might rethink that if I have to remove it thru security. It is difficult to remove while in line. Anyone use this protection?
Thanks

Tablets don't need to be removed from carry-on luggage. Only laptops. So I don't see how your choice of case for it would matter.

Exactly, and get yourself something nice. Not an otter box. :td:

As this thread isn't related to American or AAdvantage, I'm moving it to the Travel Technology forum where those interested in this topic can comment. Enjoy your iPad!

You won't have to worry about taking it out of your bag, regardless of your choice of case. I have colleagues who have fairly bulky keyboard cases and they've never had a problem leaving them in their bags. I have a slim leather cover/case and have never been asked to remove it from my bag.

Even if you were to take it out of the bag, which you don't have to, I don't think they would require you to remove it from the case for screening.

I got a roocase which is leather and folds open to make a stand. It has protected my iPad on a few falls :o

There are many places in the world where you do have to remove your Ipad (Madrid, for one), but I've never had to remove it from the cover.

That can vary - I have been requested to remove a tablet and reader from hand baggage on different occasions in US airports - and several times aborad.

My bag got searched because I didn't take it out in LHR.

Same for me at CPH. I did not have to remove it from the case at any point in our trip, though.

LHR security checks require tablet computers and e-readers to be completely removed from covers and cases.

Interesting to hear certain airports require you to remove it from your bag. I haven't been asked yet.

I just use the Smartcover for the screen. It works very well and doesn't make it any bulkier like the full encased shells tend to do.

That's going to tough for me to do. Are you sure about this?

I was asked to remove the following at the Munich Airport last week

- Kindle
- Camera
- Wireless mouse
- hard drive

I was travelling United Global First from Munich to Chicago :)
