No, Windows Blue is an update to Windows 8, not the next version of Windows.

I joke that the reason they call it Windows Blue is that they've called a code blue on Windows 8 and this is its resuscitation. :D

Because the Blue Screen of Death has such memories for many Windows user, they are just naming it that to keep people happy.

Though most of the sources say it will not hold the Blue name once it's released.

My thought is that Win8 is completely dead. On my machine, at least. I accidentally let my machine run to zero so that it shut off. It happens. The next day, I try to boot up after charging it and it goes into a blue screen of death and causes an endless loop. Nothing I have done has been able to get it out. Not the annoyingly hard to find safe mode, not the refresh options, nothing. After some research, this is a known issue since at least last October (I installed it in Feb) and that I am basically sol. Even when it worked, I didn't like it. Though I will say that it was very very fast, it was clunky and annoying. Fortunately, I was able to pull out my hard drive and clean off things I didn't want to lose, like photos. I am still yet to deal with the problem, but likely I am going to reinstall Win7. If they did any serious market research, these complaints would quickly have surfaced. Which leads me to the belief that MS knew people were unhappy but released it on them anyway in an effort to start training users on interfacing with the type of OS one would use on a touchscreen laptop or tablet. Putting aside any of my operational issues, this is the feeling I got within the first five minutes of using it and they never went away. :(

Picked up a refurb HP 2430p at Sub $500 and it got delivered today. Plan to spend the weekend reinstalling a bloat ware free copy of windows and am strongly leaning towards win 7 pro 64 bit.

After a couple of years of being a "mac only" user, it should be interesting to use the two side by side.

Looks like Microsoft is continuing to backpedal on the train wreck that is Windows 8. A future update will bring back the start menu (for real this time, not just a start button that takes you to the Metro interface you were trying to avoid) as well as apps being able to run in a windowed mode on the desktop.

Don't know how credible it is but I've read elsewhere that Win 9 is being fastracked for 2015 release and it will be a real for-desktop-use OS.

Yeah, I've seen both of those rumors; I though MS has pretty well confirmed the Windows 8.1 Update 1 and Update 2 plans (with the start menu returning and the Modern-in-a-Window functionality both for Update 2 later this year.)

Both are already available via third party tools, of course.

Corporate adoption of Windows 8/8.1 has been basically nil on regular desktops/laptops anywhere I've seen, although it's been reasonably popular on the small number of hybrid tablets and (internal/insecure) kiosk machines I've seen. So a more corporate-friendly Windows 9 would make a lot of sense.

I should have figured MS would take a little while longer to come to this realization, but it sounds like they are finally there.

We're always early adopters and our latest round of machines is Win8. Mine's due for replacement in May, so it looks like perfect timing for this fix, for me.
