iPhone 4S screen protector

In the 3 weeks since I've gone over to the Apple side (Steve Jobs reaching out to grab me from beyond the grave and so on), I've tried a few different iPhone protections:
  • A case I bought at the Apple store that you keep your phone in, and remove it when you want to use it. This is what my boyfriend uses, but I find it too cumbersome.
  • An Incipio black case. I liked this idea, but it made it difficult to access features that required touching the very edge of the screen, like dragging icons between screens.
  • I think I've hit on what I like, which is a DODOCase book back for the iPhone 4s - essentially a piece of cloth that sticks to the back. It probably provides minimal protection from drops, but I'm pretty careful with electronics and it's a risk I'm comfortable taking.

So, my question is, what screen protector should I stick on the front? I'd like a good quality one that's not too expensive (I can never seem to get them on right) and doesn't feel like you're using the phone through a condom.

Thanks!

I bought an atFoliX screen protector for my Samsung Galaxy SII and am very happy with it.

They also make a version for the iPhone:

Seeing how dirty mine gets, I can't imagine not using one.

My son who's a big time apple tech says no screen protector needed. The new glass is bullet proof (figure of speech). I just toss mine in my purse and have not scratched or damaged the screen in the 6 months since I've had it.

He's right, I got them to avoid smudging/fingerprints on the glass.

Most shopping malls have kiosks near the mobile phone shops that sell/install screen covers. I used to buy my own for a couple of bucks but could never get them to last very long without bubbling up or curling. In the end my son said: Dad, you got an expensive phone. Why not let a pro do it the right way?

So I paid $15 plus $5 for installation to get one for my new iPhone 4S. Best investment, life time guarantee. Yes, life time guarantee...met two clients that had some issues and came back for replacement after a few months.

Can't remember the brand new but there are tons of them at the malls.

FWIW, if you want the do-yourself-covers, pm me and I'll send you free of charge the left-overs I bought for my iPhone 4S :D

Hehe, thanks all. I had suspected that I didn't really need one. I seemed to remember reading something about Steve Jobs where he had insisted that the iPhone be made of glass to avoid scratches. And since I carry a microfiber cloth to clean my glasses anyway, I guess smudges don't really post a problem.

I am still a little worried about dropping the thing - accidents do happen - but I'm OK with it for now, I think. I just didn't like the feel/look of the standard case.

iPhones use something called Gorilla Glass. Or they use to there's some debate if they started making their own recently or use something else. The company that makes the glass has an NDA with apple and no longer lists apple as a current customer. But, apple is so secretive it may or may not use it anymore. Glass can take a beating. I've had iPhone 3gs, 4 and 4s and never any problems.

That said I've never used this personally but everyone says the invisible shield is the best. I've seen it in person and it's great. Look around you can normally find discounts/coupons then again front coverage is 14.99-19.99 depending which one you want. Also, look on their website they have kiosks in malls that will install it for you, not sure the charge.

i highly recommend the moshi ivisor. it's very easy to put on and take off. it doesn't have liquid applicators. there are no bubbles. the link is for black but they have white too.

I despise the ones with liquid applicators for the screen. Such a pain to work with.

I've been pleased with Zagg.... pain to apply - pay someone to do it for you.

Had the SGP case and SGP Steinheil on my 4G for over 12 months now. Both seriously scratched, however the iPhone underneath still pristine.

I'd say skip the screen protector. I dished mine the following day. The glass is very strong and will take a lot to scratch. The screen protector has to be applied 100% perfectly for it to be worthwhile.

You do have to apply it really carefully but the screen is not difficult to scratch.

leave it in your pocket with a couple of pennies and some keys.. go snowboarding for 3 hours.. bad bad idea..
:(

I use Zagg as well - costs $6 for the guy at the Zagg kiosk at the mall to install it.

"Siri, what type of protection do we need for you?"

"Dave, we don't need any protection."

I use this on my 3gs and it works like a charm and if the 4s version is anything like the 3gs version, you'll be quite happy. N.b that there are two version-1 is called anti glare and the other is crystal film and the anit-glare is the one you want. I picked mine up at the apple store* and it took me all of about 6 minutes to install and it fits perfectly plus it is "wipeable" with a cloth to remove smudges tho one caveat-the anti-glare does make the screen a tad dull but to me it's not a big deal
