The 16gb will go to my dad as a birthday present.

Two 32gb's will be used by me, Mrs. Swede and the kids. And the other three 32gb's will be sold on CL to offset the cost of one of the ones we keep (maybe 1.5).

Barnes and Noble have them at the correct prices now.

Use Mrrebates (5% rebate) to mitigate the shipping/sales tax.

Thanks for this. I ordered one for delivery to my LA hotel.

Just need them to have stock and deliver before I get there. ;)

Don't count on it . . . anything ordered after 1:30am Eastern this morning seems to have gone to "AUDIT ALERT" status. They most likely ran out of stock around that time.

Thanks for B-N link. Just gave it a try.

BN is now showing out of stock for the 16GB model. My suspicion is that they ran out hours and hours ago.

Ordered one 32gb at HP SMB which I expect will be canceled. Ordered one 32gb via Kmart at full price and they are crediting the difference back to my card (so $149+tax purchase price) and one 16gb from OnSale (Macmall/PCMall) via Amazon. I expect those two to come through. The 32gb we will keep and use when traveling so as not to bring our laptops and the 16gb will be a gift to my father. This should be perfect for him to send the occasional email and get family pics/videos.

As someone who is close to the matter, to see the current buying frenzy actually saddens me. If HP had sold the TouchPad for a reasonable price (say $250-300) to begin with, it might have actually been a successful long-term product. :(

Not sure about the accuracy, but it appears it have costed close to $300 to make a single TouchPad.

Then they should have sold for $325 (or less) to gain market share. Competing at the same price point with an arguably better product (iPad) that was already the accepted standard was a fatally flawed strategy from the start.

I was happy to pick one of these up for $100. Should be a fun toy for a while.

...and now after sending two order confirmations, Kmart has cancelled my order.

pierre mclopez Aug 22, 2011 1:14 pm

Now called the "ouchpad".

Ad the subject of You Tube parody already. Hitler finds out that HP is discontinuing the Touch Pad.

Not safe language for work. But funny.

Just received my cancellation notice from BN. My order was placed at 7:22am Eastern this morning.

Oh well.

I hear you. I personally am glad that last year HP/Palm decides to stick with Qualcomm as the chipset vendor, instead of my employer. A lot of engineering effort is wasted for this low volume, short-lived product. :td:
