If you're out of contract, go through Customer Retentions and negotiate your way to $149. Some people have been getting $99, too.

Don't forget to ask for the Preferred Android Data Plan for $20.

G2 has officially been rooted.

Edited to add: MT4G as well!

Questions on the G2: Is the time to power on a lot faster than the G1, which seems to take several minutes to fully boot? More than once the plane has taxied to the gate before the G1 was functional from a cold start.

Also, for pseudosuade or others: what's the best avenue into Customer Retentions?

Thanks in advance.

IIRC, it took about 60-90 seconds from cold boot to being able to make a phone call.

You can simply say "cancel service" at the voice prompt. Or, you can also interface with the regular CS agents, who will then either call the Loyalty Dept on your behalf, or transfer you. I just upgraded my line to the $10 preferred unlimited family text plan--regular CS rep put me on hold, called the Loyalty Dept for me, and got me setup.

ScottC, I'm sure you've rooted and ROM'd your G2 and MyTouch 4G by now. Do you still prefer the G2?

Nope - completely switched to the MT4G. Find it a much nicer phone to use, especially after I removed all the crapware T-Mobile installed on it. Even find it better than my good old Nexus One :D

For a Tmobile phone with a physical keyboard, is the G2 the way to go?

Also, any speculation as to why Tmobile does not list it with a feature "International device"?

Yes -for a phone with a keyboard, you can't beat the G2. Not sure why it isn't specifically listed as "international", but since T-Mobile is a GSM operator, almost all their phones will work anywhere in the world.

This puzzled me enough that before I hit the switch to purchase the G2 (I had a G1 previously) I contacted T-Mobile to be certain it was an "international phone" since nothing on their webpage anywhere specifically said it was. Surprising, but I guess T-Mobile just thinks the capability is so obvious that there's no need to say it.

That's my guess too, but when was the last time a company didn't not include every possible line of marketing bs in its list of product "features"?

BTW, I finally got a G2, for free, on cyber monday. I like it very much, except that I know it's about to be replaced by a much better model... but hey, you can't beat free.

The only thing that I have annoying so far is the lack of "personal hotspot" ability, (even though I haven't actually needed it :D ) and what appears to be rather short battery life...

Otherwise, I am very much a big fan of the G2.

Oh, and there appears to be no T-Mobile service in the Park Avenue tunnel, but that could have just been a glitch. Never had a problem with Att or VZ.

{emphasis mine}

Can you elaborate please?
