Droid Incredible

anyone out there pre-order a droid incredible? i was waiting for the n1 to be released for big red but couldn't wait any longer. i took the plunge an ordered one. considering all the specs and hardware are better than the n1 i couldn't resist. the only difference i saw was not being to upgrade my phone as quickly to the newest and latest android software but rooting will solve that problem. even the multi touch is a lot smoother on the incredible. w00t.

so did anyone else pick up an incredible? i received mine on wednesday and it's a really nice phone. definitely worth the switch from t-mobile. i know a lot of you won't pick it up because it's not a world phone but i have enough unlocked gsm phones to use while i'm traveling internationally.

I've thought about ordering one. Not looking forward to learning how to use it. Maybe I should find a teenager to play with it for a couple of hours and then show me how to use it.

it's sooo easy to use. you shouldn't have any problems with it.

I ordered it Saturday 5/1. Online it said it would be shipped by 5/14. However, it was shipped yesterday so I should get it tomorrow.

How much the incredible? Cheapest online price?

MsEverywhere May 5, 2010 5:16 am

Well, Verizon has a deal "New every 2." So every 2 years they give you a discount on buying a new phone. They also give you a discount for buying the new phone online. I was way overdue for my New every 2.

The price they quoted me was $299 - ($100 online discount + $100 New every 2 discount), so my price was $99. However, I went online to get a quote on a family member on my plan who wasn't due for their Ne2, and the price was $529. YMMV.

How is the exchange support on the htc incredible? Can you create and respond to calendar requests effectively on android? I had to give up the iphone for that reason and go back to the bb.

i can't really answer that question since i don't have my phone connected to my exchange account. i don't want to be doing work 24/7 so that's why it's not connected to my phone. :p i can live through the night without responding to work emails.

Oneeyejack - do you work for Google? I've read your past posts, and knowing this would help put them into context. Thanks.

By coincidence, I called my oldest sister today to wish her a happy 60th birthday. During the conversation, she excitedly told me that she was talking to me on her spanking new Droid Incredible. She is extremely happy with it, and told me that although she knows she may never use some of the more advanced business features (she's a teacher for special-needs kids), she found it very intuitive to use.

I'd really prefer to try this but verizon has a promo onnusing the palm pre as a wifi modem without extra charge. Can someone say what I'll be giving up or if there is a way to use the incredible as a wifi (? Cradlepoint
But this wont let me use with my iPad to avoid paying 3G in addition to home wifi

When the Droid incredible gets rooted, you'll be able to install the WiFi or USB tether apps. People are working hard on getting the Incredible rooted, so it is just a matter of time :)

I haven't found it very intuitive. Can someone please tell me how to turn it to "Airplane Mode, or even Off?" I have a flight in a couple of days and might not have time to intuit or call tech support before then.

Have you tried holding the power button down for 2-3 seconds? That'll bring up the power menu and the flight mode option.

MsEverywhere May 10, 2010 5:43 am

ScottC, I tried that and it just displayed the "regular" screen that it does when I press power, then eventually the screen went dark.

Anybody have an idea when there will be a four-band version? I really don't want to keep carrying multiple phones but i do so like the Incredible. I am waiting fior the iPhone too, and want to decide ASAP.

MsEverywhere May 10, 2010 6:07 am

I ended up calling VZW Tech Support. When you're on your "home" screen with the big time @ top of screen, that's when pressing Power for 2-3 seconds brings up the power menu. I had tried pressing Power from the "sleep" mode with blank screen, and that was what didn't work for me.

I have a feeling I'll be making heavy use of their tech support line, either 800.922.0204 or *611 from your cell phone. The phone help desk rep also pointed me to demos at http://support.vzw.com

Asking "when" is pretty ambitious. I think you should be asking "if."

Are you waiting for a Verizon iPhone, or are you willing to go to AT&T for it? There has been some scuttlebutt that the Verizon iPhone has been pushed back to 2011, at the earliest. And that's IF VZW gets it.

iphone for verizon won't be coming out anytime soon. att signed a 5 year deal with apple and that expires in 2012.

if you have any problems with options i would try any of the incredible/android forums. or just type a question into google...much faster than calling vzw.

actually you can already use the wifi option that they have without paying for any of the apps that require a fee or using verizon's $30/month option.

oneeyejack -- I know about Verizon's USB tether. And rooting and using WiFi Tether; has Incredible been rooted yet? But do you know of a non-rooting wifi hotspot option for Droid Incredible?

You don't need to root the Incredible to tether it, just install PDAnet. Here's a forum post discussing this. I use PDAnet with my Droid, it's flawless - quick to connect, good (but not great) bandwidth, doesn't drop the connection, etc. It actually connects to the net faster than my old Verizon V740 Express Card! I called Verizon to try and pay for tethering, but they don't have a way to take my money...

the incredible isn't rooted yet but you can still tether. best of all, it's free. you don't have to pay for it and all you have to do is change a couple of settings! it's working on my phone. :D
