With Android 2.2 installed on my Nexus One along with Flash 10.1, I can now stream audio straight from radio station websites. Only problem is that you have to leave the browser as the active window, otherwise the audio stops.
Very nice update to the operating system! |

Lack of BT voice dialing support is an Android issue, not strictly Droid, but there is a workaround:
An app called "Voice Dialer HF" is activated by pressing the camera button (don't worry, you can still use it for the camera) - something most can do without having to look at the phone. Once pressed, it prompts you through for voice commands. Until the phone starts dialing, the prompts and your replies are going through the phone's microphone and speaker. They then switch you to the headset. However, there are a few headsets that can do all the prompts and replies through the headset, notably the BlueAnt Q1. On these, the prompts are built into the headset and are sent to the phone. Scroll down to post 39 in this thread for a discussion of how it works. |

Hi guys, thanks for keeping the apps coming.
Re. Android/iPhone apps and FlyerTalk - I never noticed FT getting a plugin for TapaTalk. Now Tapatalk's recent updates have meant it fails to open on my HTC Magic (still stock ROM on 1.5; no official update available as promised to 2.1 yet :() Anyone using TapaTalk or do you find using a browser like Dolphin is good enough? PS Thanks, Scott, for making these Apps threads sticky. |
I hated using tapatalk, drove me nuts

Air Traffic Control Status US Lite version available!
I was fortunate to be able to beta test this application a while back. The developers have released a lite version of the application if you want to try it out before buying (though the Google Market lets you try apps for 24 hours if you cancel the purchase). This version is not crippled except for the widget refresh rate is fixed (i.e. changing the default configuration will have no effect) and it has advertisements (so clicking on the ads gets them some pennies).
With the latest v1.3 release (full and lite) clicking on the widget will put up a window that lists all the current FAA reports which is handy when we have really bad weather days and one just wants to see everything at once. Also, the developers are pretty responsive if you email them or leave comments at their blog. I've been testing a number of the releases and have been very happy with the results. |
I quite like the Tricorder - and for me it's even useful at identifying where I may get more interference with my hearing aids!
It's also lots of fun. Audrey |
App that prevents phone loss
I have this great app called Phone Halo. It comes with a tracking device I can put on my keys or briefcase and the keys and tracking device ring if I leave one behind. The app has prevented me from leaving my phone behind several times. I bought the system at http://www.phonehalo.com/

Free traffic app
The free traffic app has never let me down...accurate info about expressway "incidents" and how fast traffic is moving...a must in major metro areas!
INRIX TRAFFIC |
For non-major cities that have no traffic data Waze works well if there are enough Waze users. It also does turn by turn, voice navigation.

Swype Beta

the latest Swype beta is far, far better than the old one. Way to go Swype!

I continue to like Sipdroid more and more. The phone quality is fantastic - easily better than regular landline calls here in the UK. Even over 3G and EDGE the voice quality is perfectly satisfactory. A+

I've been playing around with Citrix Receiver. Allows me to connect to my company's Citrix farm. You'll need to have external Citrix access or some way to VPN to your corporate network from the phone first.

Haven't seen DriveSafely mentioned yet. Have a look at www.DriveSafe.ly
There is also a co-branded Motorola version called MotoSpeak that only works with Motorola bluetooth devices according to developer. What it does - reads text messages to you over your bluetooth device and sends canned responses to the sender (you can modify the canned text) Paid version allows you to hear up to 500 words, choose voice, enables voice command and some other stuff. One bug is that it starts my media player after every call  |
Shazam, Shop Savvy and Google Maps/Google Sky Maps. I'm also somewhat addicted to RoboDefense.
|
Lots of my favorites have been mentioned, but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Flight Director ($1.99). It's a totally addictive game that has you landing planes (don't let them crash into each other!) on Google Earth maps of real airports.

I'm just looking for updates and to find out when some of the iPhone apps promised to be ported across, get released. Here's an iPhone-specific apps list; which ones are comingto /are out on Android? I know that drync is coming (but no firm date). How about an android version of Snooth? |

Note that there is a free and a paid version (Australia does not get paid apps on the Android Marketplace for some odd reason. Not important enough dollarwise to bother including us?) |
I've been blown away by RockPlayer these past couple weeks.
http://www.diffthink.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4 It's the only player I've seen on any mobile platform of note that can play Divx, AVI and MP4 video all at once. Nothing on the iphone can do this, period. This isn't a big deal to most consumer users but it's a godsend for those of us that have ripped our DVD collections or download things off the torrent networks. Now you can simply copy files over rather than worry about transcoding and format. This, with a 32GB microSDHC card, is HEAVEN on long trips now and one of the key "little things" that has made me turn away entirely from the iphone platform. It's unlikely Apple will ever support Divx (at least not in the next year or two), so this saves me many hours of frustrating one-off transcodes. |

Had no idea - crazy. Well - if you have any feedback let me know... will be adding features over the upcoming months. Thanks! |

You are going to love it. We've been using it extensively to watch the World Cup over 3G on the ATT network and it has been extremely stable. Compared to SPM on my iPhone 3G it is loads better in terms of video quality from the same location on 3G.
I have three inputs working right now Directv LG Blu Ray player with Netflix OTA Antenna Which means, I can watch all my recorded programs on my DVR, plus I can watch netflix on the phone, which is awesome Now, I just need to find a wired camera with an S-Video output that has night vision, and I am all set |
Handcent SMS - I like it much better than the default Messaging.

Flashlight (flash-the-brain) came in quite handy last night during a power outage. I had tried a couple others but they really didn't work on the Nexus One. This one is pretty good.

Language Translator
Hi; What have folks found to be the best speech-to-speech language translator to use when traveling? I tried "Talk To Me Classic", and it was extremely buggy, did a poor job of understanding my words, and kept locking-up the Droid. Tried "Translate", and is better, but you seem to be only to speek to it in English (would be nice if when I ask someone in far-off spots a question, they could talk into the translator and it tells me in English what they said. Thanks in advance :)
