My wife and I were gifted two nice leather TUMI bags for personal items. Large, black, and luxurious. Monogramed even, plus an ID tag inside.

After one or two trips involving a wet bathroom countertop in a hotel, they were cleaned off, dried, and put away. They now sit packed in an upstairs closet.

Times have obviously changed on carry-on items. My wife had her large and expensive bottle of rose-scented hand lotion confiscated in Miami. It was fine coming in, but she forgot leaving Miami heading home. That ended the Rimowa Beauty alu case, which has joined solitary confinement with the TUMI bags.

Between a very small Rimowa amenity case, and two slightly larger nylon amenity cases also gifted from the same company, we are just fine. But we have adapted by purchasing some useful items in the countries we visit. Chapstick comes to mind.

I used to have a couple of nice bags in different sizes. Now I use two ziplocks. One for dry stuff, the other for liquids. The ziplocks take up much less space in my carry-on and are inexpensive enough to be replaced for every trip. I normally don't check in but if I had to I would probably bring ziplocks even then.

I'm using carryall toiletry kit. Its the best for long trips having extra space. It contains an elastic loop in front topic to hold a razor or pill bottles. The main pocket is too big with two small internal pockets. It has a top class build quality and no comparison of price. Its lightweight and side handles are big enough for a harder grip.

despite never breaking this particular public restroom rule ("never lean on the counter nor place anything on it") I got the ballistic for this #1 potential catastrophe. The other #1 reason was the price lol.

Toothbrush. Lipstick. Decent hotel. Credit card. All you need. No bag required.
