I experienced the "seat" yesterday at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in LGB. I'm 99% convinced that it'll never fly in the USA but there is that 1% tickling in the back of my head for certain very specific circumstances. It could be interesting.

I seriously doubt that this would ever get FAA approval. Not only would it be quite difficult to exit this type of seating in an emergency, but aircraft have to be certified to have the entire plane evacuated in a certain time. An airline cannot arbitrarily increase the number of seats without demonstrating that they can comply with the evacuation time.

If O'Leary of Ryanair hasn't mentioned it as a proposal, then it doesn't really exist (despite the photos)! :) :) :)

New Saddle Seat can reduce legroom

As someone who has spend hours in a real saddle sometimes on daily basis you can going to have a lot of people with sore butts and thighs as the angle and muscles you use are somewhat different from just sitting and the way you hang you leg or brace is also different hence different muscles.

The discussion I heard yesterday suggested that these seats would not cover an entire plane. If there are a few rows of them then the total passenger count would not increase over the rated evacuation capacity of a plane, particularly if the aircraft also keeps traditional F seats, for example.

no way would I use these seats but can see that they might be popular on very short haul. But how much cheaper can they make seats?

I can only imagine how my (or anyone else's) back would feel after a few hours in this torture rack. :td::td:

Even better

Actually they could do better with a bicycle seat. In any case, they could introduce pedals and let you exercise while you're at it. Same space and you avoid leg cramps. In F you'd get handle bars and video simulation of riding.

Certainly no place for lap babies or persons-of-size...

SBM12, you didn't mention ...could you adjust seat height?
