Dinner at Sirocco?

Hi,

What do you think of having dinner at Sirocco which is part of the the dome at Lebua hotel.

Should i go ahead and reserve a table?

Is it romantic? Is it worth it? How much should i budget(inc wines)?

thanks

We dined at the Breeze and we made an advance reservation.

Food is "okay", nothing spectacular and is expensive for what you get. Service was good.

The view was magnificent and that's what you're paying for. There were restrictions on photography. You may take photographs only at designated spots. At certain sections, photography was not allowed. We were somewhat disappointed by the restrictions.

We did not regret going for the view and experience but we are not in a hurry to go back on our next trip to BKK.

Yes very nice indeed and romantic with expansive 360 degree views of Bangkok especially at sunset ... and at night Bangkok looks magical from the 64th floor.

Make an early reservation and be there around 6 PM to experience the sunset. Turn off your camera flash as they will ask you not to take photos out of respect for other guests privacy (who also would like to take photos )

I have been there several times since 2005. Last month, we had full dinner with appetizers and drinks for two that set me back about 8K Baht (about U$240). If it's too much for your bugdet, just tell them that you are there for drinks at the Sky Bar. No reservation needed for the bar but subject to capacity limits. There is another bar inside the dome (Distil) with a patio on the other side facing the Peninsula Hotel.

Enjoy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalboz/3791558032/sizes/l/

There are other top floor restaurant/bars in Bangkok but some not next to the river as the above:

  • Overlooking the river but indoors: Three Sixty (360) Lounge at the Millennium Hilton: http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hote...otel/dining.do
  • Vertigo Restaurant & Moon Bar at the Banyan Tree Bangkok
  • D'sens at the Dusit Thani Hotel
  • The new rooftop restaurant at Central World.

Google all the above, Flickr, and/or youtube them to check out the photos & videos of what they offer. They are all excellent choices and priced accordingly.

Have fun and write us a trip report!

I have been to the Dome several times...but only to have drinks at either Distil or Skybar. My impression (and what I have heard) is the food is expensive and average quality for the cost. If you are going for the view (of course) just have a couple drinks...then eat somewhere down on the ground!! The drinks aren't cheap either!!

Great views, and yes, romantic.

Unlike others, I thought the food was good, but not as good as the price was high.

When I went ~1.5 years ago, I paid 6000 baht for the dinner (2 people), and another 2000 baht for 2 glasses of wine with dinner.

Quality has declined over time. It also can be frustrating when the windows are dirty. Two of three times I've had dirty windows. You can go outside for the view though, as others have mentioned.

I'd save my money and go for drinks at one of the bars, the views are stunning and it is a unique experience. Spend your money on staying at Lebua instead, it's my favourite hotel in BKK!

You are confusing Sirocco with Mezzaluna which is inside and may have "dirty" windows. Sirocco, on the other hand, is on the rooftop open-air with no windows.

sorry to bump this thread....decided to just go for drinks and the view but after reading some reviews for the sky bar on tripadvisor, there seems to be some negativity about the treatment and service received if you are a person of colour.

These kind of reports always create doubts in my head and while i do not take tripadvisor for gospel, i still need to ask if there is any hint of it being remotely true? IF yes, then i will take my money gladly elsewhere!

My experience has been that most Thais are friendly and very entrepreneurial. They will take care of you regardless of the colour of your skin. I shall not worry about it. Money is money and as long as you’re interested to buy, they will sell! Having said that, you still need to be vigilant with those usual tourist traps, which are not unique to Thailand. I have never been truly comfortable hiring a Thai taxi, particularly one of those at the airport which drivers invariably "forget" to turn on the meter unless you "remind" them or taking the most direct route.

I have stopped visiting TripAdvisor for some time. That web site is dominated by budget travellers whose definition of “best” generally means the “cheapest”. Most probably couldn’t afford to go to the Dome and therefore wrote silly things about it. A little bit of sour grapes. IMO, you get what you pay. You frequently read posts about where best to exchange money because the posters were about to save an extra US$1 or 2. Hotel B is "better" than Hotel A because it is cheaper, without differentiating that Hotel A is 4-star rated whereas Hotel B is 1-star or even better described as a hostel. LOL.

The Dome is probably worth at least one trip for the experience although I do not think that it’s good value for money. It’s one of those things that tourists do. Once is enough. "I've been there when I was in Bangkok." When you visit Paris, will you be satisfied with just at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, or will you be willing (subject to affordability, of course) to pay the extra to buy a lift ticket to go up to the observation deck?

That would all depend upon how crappy the air quality is. And judging from yesterday it's already going downhill for the dry season.

anyone know about if they are very strict with the age restriction (the website says under 6 not allow). I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old and would love to go for the sunset and early meal at 6pm ? let me know if it's worth the trying my luck....

The 5 yo would be easy to get away with. The other maybe not so much.

Assuming, that is, they are strict.
