No. The tip should reflect the duration of the services. For 1 hour massage, 100 B tip would be OK. For 2 hours massage it is insufficient IMO; tip should be 200 B. In theory, for a 5 hours massage, I would tip 400-500 B - you get the picture?

I never thought of Thailand as having a tipping culture, where does this suggestion come from? When I do tip in Thailand, it's only 10%. I don't frequent high end massage places, so I usually tip 10% if its good and more if exceptional. Obviously they need the money more than I do. Food for thought: https://www.tripsavvy.com/tipping-in-thailand-1658250 Thanks! |
Correct, if you apply the 100 B/hr rule it is fine.
10% tip at a massage venue in BKK is clearly too little; it may be sufficient other places. 10% tip at a restaurant will be received graciously and is considered generous. Often you just round up the amount without attention to whether it is 5%, 10% or even 20% (for smaller meals). 50 B/nt for the maid /house keeping will also be received with gratitude at hotels, although many quests do not tip; some will tip 100 B. I guess it varies a lot from guest to guest. Tipping in Thailand is complex; depend very much on the services provided. For many/most services tipping is not required (but will be received with surprise and gratitude of course) |

So 100B/hr is the standard massage tip?
