I never had any residence close to Chao Phraya river; I am not even in Bangkok anymore...

Guess it was a reference to the Four Seasons Residence? :D

I’m in your city - shame you aren’t around for a beer :)

I'm trying to decide between the Hilton Millennium, the Conrad and the Waldorf Astoria. I have Hilton Diamond status.

This will be my first time in Bangkok and I put a premium on location (specifically, proximity to "the sights").

I'd appreciate any recommendations. Thanks.

what do you mean by "sights"
if you mean the must do's sightseeing spots of a first timer in Bangkok, then none of this hotel is close to those
the Hilton Millenium has the advantage, that it is close to the Chao Phraya river, and many interesting sites can be reached by boat
Conrad and Waldorf Astoria are both in a area with many modern shopping centers and plenty of restaurants and it takes around 20 minutes by taxi to the "old" Bangkok

Yes, the must do sightseeing spots.

If talking quality of hotel, definitely the ranking is Waldorf > Conrad > Hilton.

Riverside location of the Hilton is good for boat transport, but the other two are maybe 20-30 mins by taxi to old town Bangkok. Depends on traffic of course, so go off peak.

Before I moved here, Conrad was my ‘home away from home’

I've not stayed in the Waldorf Astoria but for me Millennium Hilton normally wins over Conrad, as the views over the river (assuming you get a high room near the river-front, which you should do as Diamond) are so good.

The top floor executive lounge there is very good (certainly up until my last stay in October 2019 anyway) with decent canapes and cocktails plus stunning views over the river.

There's a regular hotel boat to Saphan Taksin BTS Station, and all of the commercial boats plying the river have stops nearby. The relatively newly opened IconSiam shopping centre next door provides multiple upmarket shopping and eating opportunities. The only minor downside for me is it can sometimes take quite a bit longer getting to and fro the airports by taxi/Grab.

The only rooms that appeal to me at the Hilton are the Panoramic Suites - other ones are small.

Saying IconSiam opened relatively recently is a bit of a stretch - it opened in 2018 :D

At the end of the day, it’s all about what the individual values - personally I think nowhere in the city beats Conrad in terms of the pool and outside areas.

Well, it was recently opened when I last stayed in the Millennium Hilton in October 2019 :D

The Waldorf's a stunner, great rooftop pool, incredible service, extremely generous upgrades.

Very well may be the best breakfast in Bangkok.

It's fine for a first timer. Plenty to walk to easy enough to get taxis.

Do yourself a favor and install the GRAB application on your phone. It's uber for Thailand, works perfectly (and in english) and prevents the taxi drivers from ripping you off since fare is predetermined.

BOLT is the new GRAB.

GRAB is having difficulty attracting drivers for whatever reason - when I was in Bangkok last week, any time I attempted to book a GRAB the only options available were SUV or van, each starting at about 200 THB per ride.

BOLT (same concept - ride sharing) consistently had cars available at less than 100 thb per ride. I'm using BOLT almost exclusively now here in Chiang Mai. The app can be a bit wonky but I've not had any problems with the drivers/routes/pricing. Cash payment only (so far).

Interesting. I noticed response time slowed when I was in Bangkok earlier this year, but I assumed it was the increase in tourists.

actually a lot of locals and expats use Grab and Bolt as well, not just tourists...

Has anyone visited the newly opened Standard Hotel Bangkok? https://www.standardhotels.com/Bangk...erties/bangkok I have a refundable booking in November with Sofitel Sukhumvit (Luxury club room) ~1200eur for 6 nights but can see that Standard Hotel Bangkok is somewhat close to that price range. I have stayed few times with Sofitel but it's been years due to covid when i last visited. Pool and gym are important to me.

Btw, there was a great offer from Secret Escapes with Sofitel Sukhumvit but it ends in the end of October so i couldn't take advantage of it but maybe some of you can. Here you can find the deal: https://www.secretescapes.com/5-star...and/sale-hotel
