I only think tech has to be clear for customers not so weird... but my 2 cents...

I know it is little consolation, but other airlines are also guilty of offering such mixed fare - QANTAS for example.

A useful step would be for dialog box that states “the only fares for the schedule selected are a mix of economy and business class - do you wish to proceed.. Y/N”

I had the same problem in economy, ended up with 2 different economy booking classes with only 20kg luggage on the way back.
No details anywhere about classes and 3 different crashes of the software during the process.

Well, will travel light, but most unfriendly support and the worst booking platform I have seen so far.... (and it is not the first).
Therefore lesson learned, I will book with another airline next time...

what was the route and approx dates?

Didn't the booking page show like picture below? I think the TG booking page shows like this for a long time.

Correct. I do note that the layout on tablet/mobile is less clear than on a PC, although the same information is still ‘discoverable’.

The options available and the names of the options vary depending on the country, so to a newcomer to or an infrequent user of Thai's website it may not be as obvious as it is to me people who are buying > 30 international R/T tickets a year.

No unfortunately no choices offered this July, only one category offered. I see with pleasure that even on the Swiss page now the different booking classes are shown. Looks like the whole page has been revamped.
Furthermore the first confirmation email did not mentioned any weight allowances, only the letter code for the class.
Strangely enough the next day I got a confirmation email with the baggage allowances and when I contacted Thai they told me it was not possible to make any changes anymore.

Cathay do this, it's very useful. When you get the fare options it has Mixed Class or something similar above the fare.
