788 flying BKK-AKL 7 Apr instead of 789
I see on FR24 that TG491 that departed BKK on 7 April is being operated by 788 and not 789. It seem HS-TWB was delayed the preceding day by around 3 hours the night before.
I hadn't noted a 788 on the 12 hours BKK-AKL route before - not that I check! I suppose this does show that any tech (or other) delays can more badly affect a 2 aircraft fleet.
I am (selfishly) interested as my flight AKL-BKK in a week or so is fully sold in J on the 789 (30 seats), and the 788 has only 24 J...

That will always be a problem with a small subfleet. I guess they might try to use a 77W if they don't want to bump people and both cabins are full.

When it comes to range, the 788 does the BKK-AKL run pretty easily. ANA use it for NRT MEX which is a good 1000 miles longer.

Looks like 491 to Auckland is operating by a 787-800 instead of 900 today (9th) where very J seats has a direct access with 1-2-1 layout.
Does TG offer any kind of compensation when an aircraft is substitute ?Already had one substitute from 787-9 to 777W TG633 (6 April) from Taipei, but no complain because All J seats had direct access.

NO compensation!
ticket means you can expect transportation in a certain class (cattle, biz or First) but no entitlement to get a certain aircraft

i aksed the lady at check-in. She did not apologise till I brought it up and said I could make a complain about the aircraft change. This is not good when customers paying full fare C class for a 787-9 J seats.

Compensation for what?
As I understand it J seats on 787-800 are very similar to those on the new 787-900. Both are 1-2-1 layout. The difference to the J seat on 77W (staggered seats) is immaterial and certainly does not warrant any comp.
Of course if you get downgraded you have grounds for a complaint; otherwise not. As already stated your are not guaranteed a certain J seat. Move on; I'm sure you had a plesant flight in J even on the B77W.

788 is 2-2-2 layout with BE Diamond seats. 789 is 1-2-1 reverse herringbone with all aisle access. Definitely a downgrade in hard product.

so herringbone on 789 are slightly better then staggered on 77W/A380/A350 and definitely better then 2-2-2 on 788
but all are J seats and any change between aircrafts will not be compensated

OK - my memory failed. I have been on TG 788 recently in C (but middle seat) but forgot that it was a 2-2-2 layout/config. Nevertheless, if direct aisle seat is important for you, you will find that 16 out of 24 seats fulfill this requirement on the 788. Hardly worth complaing about IMO. No chance for comp.

I note the first 789 HS-TWA has not flown since 05 Apr, so perhaps out for scheduled maintenance. The forward schedule from AKL still show 789.

777-200ER used for some flights in Apr
(BKK-)AKL-BKK is 'suffering' some equipment variation as 789 HS-TWA is absent from the skies as noted above, with the 787-800 and now 777-200ER (77E) being used:
08 Apr 788
09 Apr 789
10 Apr 788
11 Apr 77E
12 Apr 789
13 Apr 789
14 Apr 77E
15 Apr 789
16 Apr 77E
17 Apr 789 (and onwards)
08 Apr 788
09 Apr 789
10 Apr 788
11 Apr 77E
12 Apr 789
13 Apr 789
14 Apr 77E
15 Apr 789
16 Apr 77E
17 Apr 789 (and onwards)
