online seat selection on Thai Airways web site

Used to be able to selection seats on Thai Airways web site, by going thru "Manage My Booking" tab, but now it is showing "seat map no available" for all my reservation, where can we select/change seats online for *A itinerary? thanks.

That may be related to aircraft change, nothing you can do about this online. You want to check with your ticketing agent to change seats or call TG Thai Airways to do the seat allocation for you. Hope this helps

Others have reported this as well. Suggest you call your local TG office and have them do the seat reservations.

Very disappointing if this feature has been removed from the website.

A380 question

Thai Airways A380 FRA-BKK ---

First time flying TG. Few questions about this flight, how many meals are served in coach class and is the last economy seat in the upper deck really has limited recline (per seatguru warning)?

If you are to pick TG or NH on a 10-12 hrs flight in coach A380 on TG vs 772 on NH, which one would you pick?

Question re LHR check in

With the move across to T2 at LHR has there been any change to check in times or is it still opening at around the +3 hr mark? I'm flying out of LHR on TG917 in J next month and as a *G I'd like to get there a bit earlier and do a bit of lounge hopping beforehand. Ideally I'd like to get there about 4 or 5 hrs before.

Has anyone had any recent experience checking in at T2?

2 questions.

1. I'm flying out of BKK with seat map showing as a 77W with all seats being allocated (no free seats). Does this mean it will be likely that the a/c won't get swapped for another 777 as there are less seats? I've done 20+ flights with TG last year and as luck would have it I always got a 772 when flying J and a 77W when flying Y. Every. Single. Time. Here's hoping the seat map actually reflects my aircraft and I finally get to try to full lie flat. Thoughts?

2. Also, I'm catching the red eye flight BKK-MEL. Was wondering if I could swap out the omelette and sausage breakfast for something from the royal silk pre order? Or will they only change the meal for the supper service and not breakfast?

Cheers

If you preorder a meal just ask for them to hold it and serve it to you for breakfast. Then order something off the menu for supper.

I'm flying PG from USM to BKK in Y, then flying TG BKK to SYD in F.

Will I still get the airport benefits of BKK? I mean I know I will get lounge access, but do they have dedicated check-in at the transfer counter? And will I be taken on the cart from transfer to the lounge?

I'm actually considering flipping my trip, and doing USM first, and BKK second - so that I can enjoy all of the first benefits. My issue with this is the 4 hour connection in BKK when arriving (from SYD) and waiting for the PG flight. I assume I can't use the lounge for any of this time in BKK, as it's AFTER my TG flight?

you can use the PG lounge in Domestic. for the other questions you will get answers in the thread you opened for that.

Thanks mate. I've used the PG lounges previously. Whilst obviously great for free economy lounges, they're not really on par with TG F - should I transit on the way home instead of outbound.

Really can't decide which way is the best to do this trip!

I guess my comparison is:
Transit outbound I get:
-dedicated F Check in inbound + all other tg ex-bkk benefits
-lounge on transit outbound - meaning lounge between pg and tg
-additional luggage for flight home after shopping in bkk
-priority checked bags, as I check in with tg f on all flights except the one way usm - bkk.

Transit inbound I get:
-beach at the end of my trip, which is preferred
-tg f lounge after a day in bkk - not as good as between flights, but still nice.
-avoid 3+ hour lay over at bkk on outbound, when getting off tg f and on to pg y.
-I miss out on priority bags on way home, as pg check my luggage through.

I guess the third alternative is, if I want to be a maximiser for the sake of maximising (cut off my ear to spite my face?) I could transit inbound, but not check through. Collect my luggage, then head on out to the tg first check in...as I said, it defeats the purpose, but I work in travel so would like the full experience.

I am looking to book a Star award using Thai miles ,I have 170,000 miles to burn .
I have never booked a award using Thai before and I am looking for some advice before I start .

I have had some great awards using Dividend miles , but I dont know how "flexible" Thai are ?

I think I should be able to book BNE-BKK-NRT-NYC dest NYC-DEN stop DEN-NRT-BKK-BNE.

Do Thai ever let you make a trip in one direction without charging for a RTW trip e.g.
BNE-BKK-LHR stop LHR-NYC dest NYC-DEN stop DEN-NRT-BKK-BNE.

Any useful tips when booking with thai miles would be very welcome..

Thanks Ian

It's a WE flight and you'll get no *A benes; no lounge, no priority tags, no smiles.

For UBP look into Nok which has ~7 flights per day and often much better pricing.

I just created a Royal Orchid Account to see how many award miles it was for a flight I'm taking in Nov but since I have no miles, I cannot see the award space. I plan on transferring thank you points if it's worth it. How can I find out this info. United shows no Business class award space on Thai so I will need another option.

Thanks in Advance.

Blocked F Seats

I asked this on another thread but this is probably a more appropriate place. How does one go about assigning the blocked seats on TG, i.e. those marked with an X on expertflyer? Want to snag 1 A & K on the 747 but TG say they are assigned (but I can see they are merely blocked). Thanks.

My experience has been that you can only request the blocked bulkhead seats at checkin. By the time I check in, they are almost never available. A call to reservations will not help now, although back when TG had a special number for ROP Gold members, the agent there would almost always unblock and assign them to me. That's now just another memory from the good ol' days of TG.

If you are Platinum, the agent at the special Platinum number might be able to do something. I've just about bailed on TG now, so I guess I will never know for sure about Platinum agents, but maybe someone else here knows.

That's interesting. I just booked those seats flying BKK to MUC as part of an AKL-AMS itinerary through UA award. The booking actually has an LH confirmation number, even though they're only the last flight of three. I had no problem reserving 1A/1K through the LH site.

Gold worthwhile?

I had ROP Gold some years back, and I'm wondering whether I should get it again. The main reason for doing so would probably be the upgrades awarded for Gold and Gold+50K, which I'd want to use for a trip from AKL to Europe via BKK. But I'm wondering what fare classes can be upgraded to Business using these certificates?

Looking at some sample flights now I see four classes, EARLY ESCAPE THAI SAVER PLUS, EARLY ESCAPE THAI SAVER ADVANTAGE, THAI SAVER PLUS, and THAI FLEXI PLUS. Does anyone know which of these can be used? And will I always go to Business, or do some classes/flights only upgrade to Premium Economy?

The other nice feature of Thai is the "birthday" offer of discounted awards, which I understand now applies all year long. But there's no guarantee this will still be offered 2-3 years down the line, which is when I'd likely have enough miles accumulated to really take advantage.

Oh, and the other problem with ROP is that the miles expire after 3 years, right? That makes it difficult to accumulate enough to be worthwhile, unless you've got a credit card feeding in.

qualify as a Platinum member and your miles will not expire anymore!

Not going to happen! I fly a lot, but I never pay for premium.

Can anyone confirm which ac flies from ARN - BKK? All websites say 773, but the seat map after booking shows the new business class layout of the 777-300ER.

If it says 777-300 on Thais website that is the 77W. If it says 777-200/300 that is the 773 or 772ER

BinSabai Feb 6, 2015 5:33 pm

on my TG website it says 777-300 and it is a 777-300ER with full flat J seats
if it says 777-200/300 it is either a 777-200 or a 777-300 or a 777-200ER all with angled flat seats in J
the 777-300 has 2-3-2 in J, the two 777-200 2-2-2, the normal 777-200 has slightly more economy seats than the 777-200ER

On BKK-MUC I was able to preselected them but lost the assignment so I sent an email to the local reservation office to get them back. Same with assignment for blocked 1A/K on mxp-bkk

Strange thing in booking engine

So i am trying to book this iternary on Thai -

BLR - HKG 1st March
HKG - BKK 4th March
BKK-BLR 8th March

Funnily - when i give BLR-HKG in the first leg in multi city option, it returns no results. But if i break it up in 2 sections - BLR-BKK & then BKK-HKG - it gives me a option. The layover is coming up to be around 7 hours - is this the case why i cant select it as one journey ? And if i book the ticket - can i through check-in my luggage ?

Abyss of TG's booking engine on their website!
Of course you can check your luggage through to HKG or BLR (if flight is within 24 hours from scheduled arrival)

OK. Does anyone also know if Thai interlines with Hong Kong Airlines ? It maybe cheaper for me to do BLR-BKK-BLR on TG and BKK-HKG-BKK on HX.

I dont want to clear immigration on 1st as i am travelling straight to HKG - so can i through check my luggage to HKG when i check-in on Thai in Bangalore ? If not - then if i just carry cabin luggage - would it be possible to not clear immigration and just head to HX transfer desk once i land in BKK on 1st ?

Edit: I cant price the BLR-BKK-HKG-BKK-BLR trip on Thai. So either i do BLR-BKK-BLR on thai and BKK-HKG-BKK on HX - or go cathay

BinSabai Feb 8, 2015 5:45 am

interline with Hong Kong Airlines: yes
http://www.thaiairways.com/en_TH/Ter...e_partner.page
not clear immigration and proceed to transfer desk of HX with only carry on luggage: certainly (keep a itinerary in print with you to show to the escalator dragon from arrival to departure at BKK, as transfer desks are after security in departure area)

So if i understand you correctly - i can through check-in my baggage in BLR till HKG even though the tickets on TG & HX will be on different PNR's ?

BinSabai Feb 8, 2015 8:43 am

if you have prints of your ticket it should not be a problem

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions to ask about Miles Redemption. I have never redeemed miles with TG before, so I guess I should ask experts here.

1. How long should I book in advance for the redemption ticket?
2. If, say, I book for award ticket in J, can I change the travel date if my plan changes in the future?
3. How many seats per flight is allocated for award redemption from your experience?
4. If I purchase Q/W ticket, will GUP cover the whole route if I plan to fly SYD-BKK-CPH return, provided there are seats available for GUP?

Thank you for your help!

Found the answer to what I was looking for.

I know that THAI requires the credit card with which the ticket was booked at check-in, however does this apply award tickets (made on other airlines) as well? Would THAI even have a record to check the credit card against in this case?

I'm thinking mainly about the taxes, as the fare itself is booked with miles.

They only require this if booked direct through their website. Not required if booked through a 3rd party such as a Travel Agent, physical or online or through another airlines frequent flyer points.

TG401 is BKK SIN evening flight. It has been there for years! they have reduced frequencies to Singapore but I guess this evening flight will stay

I can not recall TG ever flew to Adelaide. At least not the last couple of years
