Numerous Problems With Site April 9, 2009

* General and occasional system slowness

* My last visited date shows: Dec 31, 08

* My mailbox shows that I have a PM, but no new ones appear in it

* Forums views reflect that the latest posts were on December 29, 2008

* If you click on the link to the thread listed in the forum view, the thread will truncate any posts that took place after December 29, 2008

* I just got this message in CommunityBuzz!

Hello FlyinHawaiian. We couldn't help but notice you haven't posted in awhile and wanted to take this opportunity to encourage you to join in the discussions. If you haven't seen anything that has tempted you to post recently, consider heading over to the TravelBuzz! forum ... there is always something interesting/strange/fun being discussed there.
What, pray tell, is going on here?

FlyingOnceMore Apr 9, 2009 5:06 pm

Apparently I haven't been on FT since Dec 30 '08 @ 05:26

Wow, I thought I had just entered a time warp. I'm glad it's not just me.

I knew the margaritas I'd made were strong but when the box went missing I panicked!

wharvey Apr 9, 2009 5:12 pm

Ditto on what FlyinHawaiian just said.

I am also getting notices of threads that were posted to in December or older.

Another improvement I take it?

Tennisbum Apr 9, 2009 5:13 pm

Subscribed Threads notification has gone bonkers (I'm seeing threads the latest post- previously read, by the way- was 1 April).

Just got this at the top of an OmniPR page where I've already posted today:

fozz Apr 9, 2009 5:13 pm

I see it too and it looks like one of the threads i frequent went back in time to 12/30/08.

Sounds like someone broke the db.

Starwood Lurker Apr 9, 2009 5:17 pm

Yep, same here. Also, everytime I go into the SPG forum, I get a new PM pop-up from MileageAddict and now it says I have 4 unread PM's when all of them have been read already.

This is awful:td:
Getting the same message as Flyin Hawaiian.

FlyingOnceMore Apr 9, 2009 5:19 pm

I see PM's that I deleted weeks ago are now back.

SanDiego1K Apr 9, 2009 5:20 pm

In My FlyerTalk, it shows all the threads to which I have subscribed since Dec 31 2008. Normally, it only shows the threads to which there have been responses since I last logged on.

Steph3n Apr 9, 2009 5:23 pm

wow it seems the DB has been partially reverted back to Jan 8,2009!!

BearX220 Apr 9, 2009 5:24 pm

I was in mid-click, jumping from one forum to another, when the clock flashed back to Dec 31 2008. Thought I had caused a rip in the space-time continuum -- got a goofy, chilly Twilight Zone feeling for a second.

But if you call up a list of your own posts, they're all up to date and reflect our actual position in this time cycle.

In all seriousness the site is a train wreck today -- again.

FlyinHawaiian Apr 9, 2009 5:25 pm

It comes as no surprise to me that there is a full moon tonight. Utter lunacy going on right now... :-:

Steph3n Apr 9, 2009 5:29 pm

This doesn't look good, I am seeing forums get overwritten with data from Jan 1, 2009 as I write now.

It looks like someone issued a DB restore and it is going on a server and spreading to others, RAID arrays gone bad and they had an old offline drive that came online and controller is overwritting.....or worse.....

JonathanIT Apr 9, 2009 5:29 pm

All my subscribed threads show the latest post on Jan 1, 2009. Seriously, one of them was titled "Happy New Year!"

tom911 Apr 9, 2009 5:31 pm

Maybe the clock is slowly catching up? I notice it's moved about 16 hours in the last few minutes.

You last visited: Dec 31, 08 at 11:10 pm

You last visited: Jan 1, 09 at 3:26 pm
And right now it says Jan 1 10:32pm as I submit this.

yep.....DB is screwed.

Fredd Apr 9, 2009 5:39 pm

See also this thread.

It's acting up a little like the UA (Da Bomb) site. :D

And it's so handy having my most 127 most recent subscribed threads displayed at the top of the page. :p

Tuneman1984 Apr 9, 2009 5:43 pm

I've got Jan 2, 2009 as the current date and I have 2 unread PMs that I can't read. My inbox shows the 2 new messages in its count, yet the messages aren't there.

baglady Apr 9, 2009 6:08 pm

But, but, my box is gone:confused:

Kagehitokiri Apr 9, 2009 6:09 pm

having same issues with PMs and subscriptions going back to old dates/archives/etc

also having trouble staying logged in

N965VJ Apr 9, 2009 6:10 pm

I’ve also been getting kicked out of my login session the past few hours for no reason.

IB-Dick Apr 9, 2009 7:05 pm

The issues should be close to fixed.

Define close ;)

Thank you for the update.

Unfortunately the box is only up to January and with ALCO's bachelor party in the making, this is top urgent :D

+1 (I'd say Plus1 but he doesn't exist yet in this space time continuum)

IB-Dick Apr 9, 2009 7:13 pm

The issue was with some data getting corrupted. Fortunately, it doesn't appear that the corruption effected anything other than counters, which we can re-build. We are obviously still taking stock of the situation, so please report any further issues you experience.

I didn't define close because the data corruption made it so I couldn't post before (which is why the site went down without me posting in this thread). That was a test post I made to see if I could post.

The box only being up to January... Can you elaborate on that, I have no idea what that is.

This thread is missing about 25,000 posts....

IB-Dick Apr 9, 2009 7:19 pm

As we update the counters that need to be updated, dates and post counts may be off. It is going to take a couple hours for this to clear up, so please be patient.

If there is something that is still out of whack, please go ahead and report it (if it hasn't already been reported). There may be counters that we haven't started updating yet and your reports will help us find them.

For the next couple of hours, the forums may be slow. That's because the servers are working extra hard to update the counters while the forums remain open. Either we have it running slow, or we close the site.

Run it slow, chill out and thanks for jumping on this as fast as you did. :)

Thank you very much for that.

When you say it's missing 25,000 posts.... Is that from the post count, or are the posts actually missing?

If it's just the post count, that makes sense. That is thread number 710,013 and we've only rebuilt up to 200,000 as of right now.

Gargoyle Apr 9, 2009 7:35 pm

Definitely entertaining. I was greeted with the following announcement:

Yup, I've only contributed maybe 6 or 8 posts today, so that counts as "haven't posted in awhile".

And, dumping all posts in the Delta Forum Lounge Thread™ made since Jan. 3 might help the merger with NWA move forward smoothly.

Also, since it says I haven't visited since Jan 3, 09 at 11:03 pm, that means FT has just gifted back to me the many hundreds of productive hours that I've spent on FT in the past three months. I wonder what I'll do with all that time...

:D :D :D :D :D

It looks like it's all caught up now. It was still stuck in January when the site came back up.:)

MatthewLAX Apr 9, 2009 7:46 pm

With 109 messages in my inbox, I am suddenly at 94% capacity and have one phantom unread message! :D

FYI other than one additional phantom PM notification my calendar and other features now appear to be back to normal as I return after an absence of a couple of hours.

Cheers,
Fredd

Gargoyle Apr 9, 2009 8:36 pm

Everything seems to be OK now. It does show 483 messages in my PM box, I thought it was at 492 this morning, but I could be wrong. Noting recent is missing, I didn't check the old stuff.
