Posting to test the problem.
Edit: That worked fine. If you are still experiencing this, can you point me to a thread where you are having the problem? The previous problems we experienced seem didn't occur in every thread.

I'll try to poke around and see what I can see.

Kevin:

If you want to check your logs, the United Forum was frozen at about 10:20 a.m. Pacific Time. We had at least one duplicate thread started by a user due to the slowness.

Thanks.

I just now posted to this thread
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=832139
the window hung five minutes (before I navigated away from it), but the post had posted.

When I send PMs today, it takes almost a minute for the PM to send and the screen to return to the main Private Message screen.

EDITED TO ADD: The same thing happened with this post!

According to one of the lead developers at IB, there are a whole host of people working on this issue at the moment, all of whom he says are much smarter than him :p

The only new information I can provide is that this appears to be a firewall-related issue. I'm sure that isn't comforting in any way, but it's all I know at the moment.

Still getting problems with RBPs and PMs timing out.

Just to check RBP = regular board post?

Is it consistent or does it come and go? Any pattern to it -- particular threads/users? Are you noticing board slowdowns at the same time or just posts and PMs?

I still can't reproduce it on this end. I had something I thought was the culprit logged, but its checked out all afternoon so it has to be something else.

RPB = the "Report Bad or Misplaced Post" feature, which creates an email notificationto the moderator(s) of the forum.

seems to be working much bettah as my posts are now going thru wicked fast

edited to add: except this one  as it took a full 30 seconds to go thru as opposed to other posts which took at most 2-3 seconds

Its a configuration problem on one of the three webservers that runs the board. I've passed it on to the admin folks.

Curious as to why this is so difficult to get fixed?

Now, sending any PMs hangs indefinitely and you don't know whether the PM has actually sent or not.

I've taken now to cc'ing myself on all PMs, keeping a second FT window open, and refreshing it to see if the PM was received.

Pretty frustrating.

EDITED TO ADD: Now the yellow box indicating that I have a PM is always lit and says I have one PM, even though I don't. Sheesh.

EDITED FURTHER TO ADD: When posting on this thread, the screen just hung forever.

If there are webservers for FT that actually work, maybe you could simply give us their direct ip addresses, Kevin?

You probably don't need to cc'ing yourself on all PMs. My "trick" to verify whether my PMs is sent is keeping a 2nd FT window open and directing to the "Sent Items" of my PMs (I believe the default setting is saving all outgoing PMs in Sent Items). Once refreshing the 2nd screen, if PMs are in my "Sent Items", I assume they have been sent (well, sort of "risky", I know). Of course your strategy is a step up and confirm the PM on the recipients' ends.

Kevin, speaking for myself, I don't think FT is slowing down when I run into hung screens.

Maybe you can try to send PMs to your IB fellows and have a dose of the hung experience. ;)

Maybe it's time to have a new lead developer (or more) at IB? :D:p

Back to seriousness, I have the same question as cblaisd: Why is it so difficult to find the fix?

Hung Screen Again!

Tried to do a RBP just now and the screen hang forever in a non-responsive manner. :(

Are we having another FT weekend "hangover" episode again? ;)

When submitting a post, it hangs in firefox. (works fine in IE.. weird..)
