Search is not properly working at 8:04 AM.

I've never been stumped by the search feature. I'm a search pro. H*ll I'm the search police trainer. :p :p Anyway, the search feature, any version, has never been a problem for me.

However, today, I attempted to run a title search, using the word "breakfast" in the starwood forum. I get the following message, "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." This is complete untrue. Here are two examples of threads in the starwood forum with "breakfast" in the title
  1. Starwood: what hotels gives breakfast to elites?
  2. Free breakfast for SPG Gold Preferred Member

I've been a member of FT long enough to know there are other starwood threads with breakfast in the title.

Can someone check the system and let us know what's going on?

IIRC, the title search hasn't been working for a long time, using quoted search term or not.

If you run another title search for this thread using the word "problems", you'll get the same sorry-no-matches result. (Yes, I just tested it.) There is obvious a problem since this thread is titled, "Search problems." ;)

Now isn't that a hot mess?!

lin821 is correct, there is an ongoing issue with the search by title function. As it stands right now, you can search by title on all open forums, but when limiting to a single forum the search fails.

Any remedy for that? I mean other than using Google?

Folks do need to perform title search within a say forum successfully to narrow down the result.

Google seems to do a better job than the search on FT.

No remedy yet. Of course, we'll let you know when there is (though, if history teaches us anything, many of you will likely discover the fix yourselves before we are able to post an update ... FTers are the toughest group in the world to scoop :) ).

FTers shouldn't need to find a fix. The search should just work as it does on many other sites.

I fail to see how you can take a product that worked relatively well and enhance it to the point of destruction with no apparent contingency plan.

I sincerely hope there's not a single April Fools' joke in what you'd said. :p

For the past week or so, a search for "ita" looking for posts in the last week is returning no results. But I know there are plenty of posts - I've seen them by browsing around.

Things were working okay for about a month, but now no go.

Sorry, bad attempt at a joke there.

If the search had been working well, I can guarantee there would have been no effort to change it. In point of fact, Search hadn't been working well for quite some time as FlyerTalk basically outgrew the built-in vBulletin search capabilities, and therefore required modifications. The thing is, the previous problems with Search didn't always present themselves in a way that made it obvious to members that Search was the culprit.

What would happen is, members would use the search feature and get their results, but because of the way the results were generated, the load time of the entire site was being dragged to a crawl. So essentially, even though search seemed to work well for members who were using it (although that wasn't always the case either), all of the other members who were browsing were wondering why every page on FT was taking upwards of 30 seconds to load, if the page loaded at all.

I hope this helps clarify why modifications to Search were deemed high priority, and why immediate action in some form needed to be taken, even though it has resulted in other Search issues along the way.

For testing purposes, would you happen to know of a thread that should have been included in the search results but wasn't?

Thanks.

I just did the search again today, and got no results.

Here's a thread that should have been included, it had a post mentioning ITA yesterday.

Are you by any chance searching by title? If so, that feature isn't currently operable.

However, I performed a search on "ita" today, restricted results to one week, searched entire post, and found that thread near the bottom of the first page of results, so there might be a workaround yet.

If you weren't searching by title, let me know.

Thanks.
