Im just happy to know its not my computer!!

peteropny Jan 8, 2007 7:32 pm

I haven't really noticed a problem with pages loading - but have noticed problems with posts posting slowly - causing many people to "hit" the "post" button again - I've noticed many duplicate posts scattered throughout the site (I've even done it a few times).

PremEx Jan 8, 2007 8:11 pm

Ever since the new software was loaded a few weeks ago...it's been like a full minute "stall" every ten minutes or so. Sailing along and then just bam! Hit a wall where nothing happens for about a full minute. Then it comes back up and sails along just fine until it happens again. Definitely a cycle thing for me.

And it's still happening.

GUWonder Jan 8, 2007 8:12 pm

Just when I come here to post that it's slow, it's back to speed apparently. :o

Exactly correct. It hasn't been the same since that software update.

dcutcher Jan 8, 2007 8:32 pm

Up is where I'm about to give

I can usually get the initial one or two screens to paint at thoroughly acceptable speed, but when I click on any one, partiicular forum thread to open, all I get is ... major hang... 10 seconds, 15 seconds... OR
using IE, the status bar will rush to 98% complete and then....hang.....and hang... and....
I've tried using Firefox, I've loaded adaware and Spybot, I've even paid my annual $12 for FT monthly newsletter, as recommended to deal with Sherman/Berman or some such travel agency pop-ups. . Result: ... .... ..... ..... ....... no difference
Even attempting to to post this message, I had to back out and come forward several times. This on a fractional T-3. AND, it was not always thus!

That pretty much sums up my experience as well.

Works fine, hits the wall. Then works fine and hits the wall again a little while later.

cblaisd Jan 9, 2007 10:32 am

51 seconds to open this thread :(

CApreppie Jan 9, 2007 11:05 am

Its sooooooo painfully slow! Aaargh.

Tim at WebFlyer Jan 9, 2007 11:24 am

Thanks for the feedback all, we have been making some changes/tweaking things and not all things have immediately resulted in better performance as noted above. I just wanted to confirm that we are still working on this problem... thanks,

Tim at WebFlyer Jan 9, 2007 11:52 am

We believe that we have this problem fixed now, please continue to post feedback in this thread of any lag spikes. Thanks again for all of the feedback so far. :)

Mary2e Jan 9, 2007 12:20 pm

So far (insert crossed fingers here) the speed seems to be back to normal.

I posted a few things and check in on a few threads and I haven't hung at all.

Hopefully it's fixed.

Thanks Tim.

Mary2e Jan 9, 2007 1:00 pm

I'd swear it's actually moving a bit FASTER now than before the upgrade ^^^

I think I might agree with you on that. ;)

PremEx Jan 9, 2007 6:17 pm

Bouncing around FlyerTalk for about the last 20 minutes....and so far, so good. :)

the_traveler Jan 10, 2007 12:02 am

It's working normal (or better :D )! Let's hope it stays that way!

Pat89339 Jan 10, 2007 1:32 am

S-L-O-W since I signed on. It took about 2 minutes once I clicked reply to get a page that said Database Error. I went back and tried again and instantly got the reply to thread page.

Hi Tim, I've been trying to add to this thread for the past several minutes. FT is slow once again. :(

AZ_MISMAN Jan 10, 2007 8:35 am

Not just Analise. Having trouble here, too.

coachrowsey Jan 10, 2007 8:40 am

PremEx Jan 10, 2007 12:43 pm

I've seen this a few times recently. Sometimes when posting a new thread, sometimes when just opening an existing thread.

"View page source" contains the following info (IP address available by PM if required, sessionhash has been mangled by me too):

Code:

I think we should change the title of the thread to

S..........L..........O..........W

Consensus from many at the SIN doo this weekend. Slower than slow has been my experience from Thailand.

PS Hotmail is lightning speed. You could always call them and team up ;) JK.

the_traveler Jan 15, 2007 9:47 am

It was working fine for me for the past few days, and all this morning. But within the last 10 minutes, it s.l.o.w.e.d right down! It now takes 30-60 seconds to turn a page or reload.

The servers seem to be responding very fast, are you experiencing the same issues on other websites? Are you seeing problems wile searching or in particular forums?

GUWonder Jan 18, 2007 1:28 am

Slow ... very slow. But now seems back to speed again.

cblaisd Jan 18, 2007 1:58 am

Intermittently slow tonight.

And sometimes the database error message.

Same here.

I also see posts that I make showing up as unread in the listings. Normally any post I make will show as read. Is there a time-sync problem between different servers?

Unfortunately you will experience some slowing and DB errors between 1am and 1:30am MST, this is when the servers backup. We are currently trying to improve performance during that time, let us know if you experience any slowing that is not included in that time frame, thanks ^ .

Analise Jan 22, 2007 8:23 am

The system is SLOW again. I've been trying to post in the Budge Travel section and it ends up timing out. So here I am. It's 10:05am and I'm trying to post on this very thread. Is there a system issue going on now?

cpx Jan 22, 2007 8:43 am

Same here.. it was slow and non-responsive 10 minutes ago.
I could view, but I could not post.

This hasn't gone unnoticed. Slow down hits at 08:00 GMT each day and lasts for about 15-20 minutes.

Appreciate now the reason for this but if the back-up could be scheduled to take place say an hour earlier, it would give me a fighting chance of getting into the office on time ;) :D

I've noticed that the slowness seems to be more of a rendering thing than actual data transmission.

For example, right now I'm trying to view a thread in another window and if I view source, everything is there. But looking at the IE window (using IE 6.0 on XP) only the top ad is there along with the menu bar. The rest of the page is completely blank.

I've also noticed that IE will start to render a page and then bomb out with an error saying it was unable to download the page even though it had already been displaying it.

Reloading/refreshing the page eventually fixes the issue.

This only seems to happen with FT.

Joshua at WebFlyer Jan 29, 2007 8:43 am

I am not seeing any errors on our side at the time of your post, do you have another browser that you can try? Which forum/pages are you seeing issues with? and last question :) what is the error message you are getting?

PTravel Jan 29, 2007 10:06 am

I had exactly the same experience last night with FireFox -- FT very slow, the top ad would render and then the browser would just sit there. It's fine this morning.

KosraeTV Jan 29, 2007 5:37 pm

I came over here to post a question about the possibilities of getting FT to allow or offer another format for people who only have Dial Up connections. I noticed and went to and saw this thread about the speed issue, but my situation isn't really that speed has slowed down, it's that I only have dial up (44 kbps). Granted I gotta be one of the only people left in the world that only has dial up but that's all that is offered where I am at.

So is there anyway, or maybe I missed it, that we can get the pages in a different format. I'm no techno weenie so maybe there's a browser that will load up the info without the ad's and such but I just spent over twenty minutes waiting while new posts were loading up.

So help me with web3 or whatever it is that folks are talking about please. Would that help?

Joshua at WebFlyer Jan 30, 2007 8:54 am

mozilla has some great browsers that will load a bit faster than IE you can check them out on mozilla.com. You may also want to look into Flyertalk Premium which is ad free. :D
