Hyperlink pasting not working for me.
I'm having trouble with the hyperlink pasting function. If I try to paste in a link, say to the FT homepage, I get a dialog box that starts with "http://" and does not allow me to enter a description of the referenced page like this: http://www.flyertalk.com/ The hyperlink does show up as "clickable".
Are my setting messed up, or is it a server-side issue? |
Are you referring to using the Insert Link button? If so, this may explain the way it presently works, post-upgrade.
If not, then I dunno. |

BTW, this only started happening after I upgraded to IE 7.0. :(

Here is a quick and easy explanation of how this works by step:
1) Click the link button (world with a link over it) and paste or enter your valid link in the box that pops up, click ok. You will see something like this: [ URL="http:// www.flyertalk.com/"]http://www .flyertalk.com/ but the red part will be highlighted. * added some spaces in the link above to keep it from being parsed. 2) The highlighted part is the text of think, so just type (unless you deselected the highlighted text, in which case reselect it first and then enter the link text you desire, this will replace the red text. The link will now look like: [ URL="http:// www.flyertalk.com/"]Some link text 3) There is no step three, you are all set now. ;) |
Thanks for explaining this Tim. It seems like it was much easier before with the prompts.

Once this method is gotten used to I think it is just as easy and if you don't want to enter text it actually makes it easier I would say as it skips a dialog box. At this point we don't plan on changing it.

I definitely agree with this statement. Can we go back to the old method or are we stuck with this new format with the BB upgrade that just took place?
|
I use the method that chexfan taught me years ago.
Within the first parens, put the url=hilton.com (for example). Then say what it is that you want to be clickable. End it with Whatever the new method is, I'm not using it as I'm so comfortable with the old way. |

Tim when they introduced Windows XP, Microsoft offered their customers two ways to view the control panel. One was called "Classic View" and the other was called Category View". Is there anything in the BB's software that will allow something like this to happen with the hyperlink pasting function? |
