Searching: 1 problem and 1 question

Problem: Lately, searching for 2 words seems to bomb out for me, on any type of search - in a particular forum, across all forums, etc. Putting an AND in between the words doesn't seem to help. Anyone else notice this recently?

Question: How would one go about searching for posts about an airline by its code, since search does not allow strings less than 3 characters? i.e. I want to search for any posts about HP (America West) in the UA forum.

Thanks!

Unfortunately the best way to tackle this is probably with Google currently. It is not a perfect solution but can search with more search terms than the vB search can. This link will take you to a google search that can search FT only:

http://www.flyertalk.com/google_search.php

Searching for "America West United Mileage Plus" gets alot of results, so adding some other search terms there might help.

Is the search function having a problem? I am getting the following error when searching on keywords or doing "New Posts"

Database Error

There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.

Search is currently down, we have the Google search link up to replace it for the time being and are working to get it back up.

You should not be having this problem now.

Thanks for all the hard work ^

Any search I do for a word seems to disconnect the session before a page arrives. I can search for user ID OK, it's just search for text that's causing problems.

Search is down again: "ERROR: You tried to access the address http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/search.php, which is currently unavailable..."

I just checked all the servers and there don't seem to be any issues. Are you still getting this error?

YES:

Error!
Connection closed by remote server

You tried to access the address http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/search.php, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.

Let's figure out what is going on here, which page are you linking from when you get the error? What is the URL? Are you logged in? What Internet prowser are you using?

I am not linking anything. I am logged in at Flyertalk. I click on the white "Search" in the darkblue bar which heads the forums. I type whatever word and after about 30 seconds get the error message.
I use Opera 9.0.

Similar problem with IE: "This page cannot be displayed."

Joshua at WebFlyer Oct 18, 2006 2:36 pm

I am trying to duplicate the problem and have been unable to do so. So lets try a few more things. Which Operating system are you using? which version of Opera are you using? Have you tried turning your firewall off? have you tried restarting you computer? are you at work or home?

My Experience

I've often been unable to have the search function return results when typing multiple words or a relatively common single word like "award", even in just one forum. On Firefox for the Mac, I just get a blank screen with the word "Done" at the bottom. On Windows Internet Explorer, I get a "this page cannot be found" screen.

Can you get to the bottom of this?
