Searches returning blank screen
I'm trying to a search or advanced search, but the site keeps returning a blank page at the end of the search. I'm using Firefox on a Mac. THanks.

I am experiencing the same problem using Firefox on a PC. I posted this earlier and received one reply asking for more information. I have not heard anything back.

Searches resulting in a blank page are a problem we are having with FT recently, yes. When this happens it is a result of a search term that is too common on FT and it overloads the search. If you are experiencing this it can be sidestepped it you can use a more specific search term and avoid using terms that are common. Another possible way to get around this problem is to use a FT specific Google search:

Thanks for the quick respone and excellent link. It was a catch 22 trying to search before posting and not being able to get any results.

Thanks, Since the search feature doesn't seems to be functioning properly. Is it to difficult to post this alternative search function at the top of each forum? Currently people are posting new threads on subjects that have been discussed in great length. Thanks for your consideration. |
Search is misconfigured!
Search is defaulting to "All Open Forums" instead of the particular forum you're in.
All you have to do is just click on "Advanced" and select the particular forum you want to search. It will work fine. See my post in the other recent "search not working" thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showp...82&postcount=5 |
I am also having the problem of a 'blank' page being displayed after search - but this is only the case when I'm using FireFox.
...If I switch over to IE 7 RC1 ... the same exact search will return appropriate results and not a blank page. I'm not sure if this is due to the recent FireFox update - but it definitely appears to me to be an IE vs. FireFox issue. -Chris |

I've tried to reproduce this issue - but when I do a search from inside any of the forums (I tried MilesBuzz!) ... I only get results from that forum. I did this by clicking on the 'Search this Forum' link and typing my search in the textbox that appears. -Chris |

It seems to be working again (defaulting to this forum) - thanks ^

seems the problem is still there. I wouldn't consider searching on the Hilton forum with diamond force award paid as too difficult a search. The old version of the bb did this with aplomb. Works ok for title search but not for all posts search. Even if I limit the time period severely, I still get the dreaded error/blank screen. After all the years of encouraging posters to use search to avoid duplicating, this is a bit discouraging of having several months of this.

Not sure if this is the right thread to post in...
It seems to be common lately to encounter error pages (using explorer 7) when doing searches, especially the advanced searches and searching specifically in the forums or threads using the appropriate tabs. A reason I post here is because many posters become irritated with duplicated thread topics, and start entire discussions on the subject. But when search does not work properly, it seems difficult to avoid these issues... This is not a rant... I don't claim to have the answer and solutions, and I am sure the technical staff are doing their best. |
