I think you're in the "master thread" that was referred to as the posts from December have been consolidated into this thread.

Frustrated by coupon connections forum has a 180 day entry requirement

ON a off topic comment. I feel quite frustrated by the fact coupon connections forum has a 180 day requirement. Which I really find unnecessary given that it really does limit those who are quite active and meet the 180 post limit within a month or so.

Obviously I did not join FT for it, Heck I didnt even know about until a week or two ago, but once you know about it, the urge to see whats the fuss about is ever growing.

And it does kind of hinder power posters who jump in.

lo2e Mar 15, 2016 6:03 am

While I understand the frustration, you might want to check out the "Talkboard Topics" forum and search for threads in there that reference Coupon Connection for some background on why the requirements are what they are. It is not meant to be punishing to "power users" like you, but rather to reward posters who have demonstrated a significant commitment to the core value of FT - discussing miles, points, and travel-related topics.

While it's nice to have a place like CC, I honestly don't understand the "fuss", as CC shouldn't be the only reason posters are here.

I, for one, appreciate that your posts have had "valuable" content to the discussions you have joined, which definitely is not typical of "new" users to the forum. Just use a little patience and you, in turn, will have access to CC and all will be well. Every single one of us had an access restriction before we could see it, and we're still alive to tell about it! :)

These limitations were determined as necessary some time ago, and won't likely be changed. The Coupon Connection, as explained in the wikipost at the top of every page of this thread (where we have merged your post), TCC is not a FlyerTalk member's "right", it is a privilege extended to most FT members with a longevity of 180 days or longer and 180 constructive posts.

Congratulations for being an active participant and contributor; your opportunity to participate in TCC will come soon.

The requirements seem somewhat arbitrary to me. I've been participating for almost a decade and still don't have 180 posts, not because I don't contribute to the site but because I generally avoid adding chatter when a question has already been answered or I can find the answer to my issue in the archives.

wharvey Mar 15, 2016 10:25 am

In over a decade you have made 94 posts.... that is not a major level of contribution. less than 10 posts a year.

It is so easy to contribute meaningful posts.... for example, you can add value in the local forums near where you live or places you have travelled.... many people love hearing personal perspectives on hotels, airlines or things to do.

CC was meant for FT members who contribute to the FT community... not just come and take from the site.

Blame a prior Talk Board (2011) for that.
Motion Passed: Change Coupon Connection Access Requirements

I lobbied against changing the requirements. LINK

If you feel strongly about the entry requirements, you can start a thread in the Talk Board forum requesting the entry requirements be lowered. Any member can post in that forum (no entry requirement).

Also, for whatever it's worth - I rarely make it through all my upgrades before they expire so my interest is on the giving side rather than taking.

If you participate on the AA forum, you've surely noticed the yearly thread there that does allow the giveaway of AA systemwides for a few weeks. It was just closed on March 1 when the bank of expiring February 28 systemwides had expired. Did you give away any there?

If you want the Coupon Connection entry requirements revisited, you need to convince the Talk Board, not any individual on this forum.

My SWUs got used, BXP1s and lounge passes expired. So it goes.

wharvey Mar 16, 2016 8:56 am

Please read what I said.... I did NOT say your posts were not meaningful....I said your posting history was not a "major level of contribution". That is true.... The Talkboard has set a low threshold... average of 1 post a day for six months to gain access.

Curious myself, just wonder if even posting in this thread will get me "flagged".. Passed 180 and tried CC and Omni and no dice; someone must think I'm not contributing enough. :( Yes, most of my posts are only in UA MP and I post in flurries here and there - but really just tried today as an afterthought when my posts ticked past 180.

Do people get manually vetted when they get past 180, or is there an "organic" threshold and some people get put on a blacklist?

Or shall we never know, as it's a mystery....

Either way no big deal, but the judginess is actually a little off-putting. Been here about 3 years and I just have certain issues I'm passionate about (yes, UA) so do we have to be more well-rounded to access these fora? Does topic of contribution or breadth matter?

FT can do what it wants of course, just would be nice if there was a little more clarity.

MSPeconomist May 19, 2016 4:50 pm

I suspect that it might take a day or two after 180 posts for access to appear. Also, there could be cases where a post was deleted but your post counter under your username didn't decrease, so there's a chance that your true count could be under 180. I don't know whether this occurs on FT, but I'm thinking of situations such as where you quote a post that's later deleted, not when a mod deletes your post for cause.

AFAIK breadth doesn't matter as long as you're making travel related contributions, although too many posts like "+1000" would probably be held against you if someone were to look at content.

tcp1 May 19, 2016 4:53 pm

Ok, it was just me being impatient. Seems there IS a built in delay of some sort. Makes sense.. It just showed up right now, about an hour after passing 180.

Thanks.. I imagine the system runs batch jobs that updates things on a regular basis.

The only vetting beyond the posted criteria includes noncontributive posts. For that, those are generally deleted. Post counts can also be reduced for similar reasons. And in those cases the Coupon Connection Moderators are likely to inform a member s/he has been barred for a time.

If you had all 180 posts in the UA MP forum, that's not a problem. Small delays, yes, because in the end I suspect someone must manually intervene to provide access.

I'm also unable to see the forum anywhere. Any ideas? I've got some AS GGU's burning a hole in my pocket.

Until one has the requisite 180 / 180, no offer, request or trade posts may be made, including in this thread.

Thank you,

When I click the link to Coupon Connection, I get an error "You do not have permission to access this page", any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps you haven’t had 180+ posts long enough?

I see you have quite a few posts in the last couple of days. This might be considered a posting run, which would disqualify you from CC.

Did you just hit 180 posts? If you did, try logging out, clearing your cache and all of that, then logging in again.

No luck, I guess I'll give it a couple days to see if it fixes itself. Thanks!

If you read the wikipost up thread, you'll see the guidelines and possible explanations for folks not granting or losing the privilege to access. Generally speaking, one's posting pattern speaks for oneself. You should contact CC Forum MODs to get a more specific answer.

As lin821 suggested, the Wikipost has useful information, and any issues are best sorted with the Forum Moderators, wharvey and Spiff.

The tenure you have because I believe there's a 90 day waiting period from the time you join..however last I recall there was a 90 post requirement as well. I'm on my mobile so I can't see your posts perhaps that's the issue.

Then the 180 posts that are currently required will be an even bigger challenge.

The requirements back then were 90 days and 90 posts. You might have been grandfathered in if you met those requirements, but you did not. You're pretty much out of luck until you post enough to reach 180 posts.

Hi hln,

Upon 180 posts, you will be automatically granted access to the CC forum. We require posting as well as 180 days on the site partially to combat spam (otherwise spammers could make an account and sit and wait) and partially to reward members who have contributed a lot to discussions.

Well, some posts contribute more than others ;)

Take your timeme, post occasionally (travelers sharing experiences and knowledge is what FlyerTalk is all about) and you’ll get there soon enough.

European members from popular destinations like France, Italy or Spain, can be most helpful. FlyerTalk is how I learned about a good paella restaurant in Barcelona, about Ostia Antica and how to visit from Roma or FCO. How to use the Alilaguna boat from VCE to Giudecca Stucky to our hotel, etc.

(Don’t be in a hurry or post meaningless content, however. That is called “post padding” and is both prohibited and generally gets a member locked out of The Coupon Connection (or a reset of the post count, which has a similar effect.)

Hi all, I see this thread was last replied to over a year ago. Does the legandary forum still exist? Still 180/180 as the requirement? I mainly lurk on the FT forums, but would love to eventually get into CC. Thanks.
