Pop Up Ads
Not really a problem, but a curiousity.
Lately, when viewing FlyerTalk, I've been getting an abnormal number of pop-up ads, all the same.
Nearly every time I click on or leave an FT topic, a window pops up with an ad for United Airlines 'Fly 1 Free for Every 3' promotion. Always the same ad. Currently, I have about 30 duplicate ad windows open. Google's pop-up blocker doesn't do a thing to block these.
I suspect that it probably has nothing to do with FlyerTalk but the fact that it is a travel related ad makes me wonder.
Also, this only happens when using Internet Explorer. When I tried Netscape and Firefox (Hey, I've got some free time, today), I don't see any ads.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I'll bet that's it. I recently installed SpySweeper which will block, among other things, 'tracking cookies'.
Strange that FT is the only place that I've observed any change to my normal surfing since that was installed.
Thanks for the info. At least now, I can decide which annoyance I dislike the least.

I'm using IE6 with Windows XP SP2. The popup blocker in this new version of IE6 seems to be blocking those United ads (which I was getting previous to SP2 upgrade).

Ad issues are not technical issues. Complaints or suggestions about ads should not be posted in this forum.
Questions about frequency are OK, and questions about how the ad company's are working around popup blockers are ok -- although neither Dan nor I know how they are working around pop blockers so asking about it doesn't do much good.
If you just don't like the ads, don't post here. It's not the right place. We can't help you.
Thanks,
John
