I stay 365 nights per year in hotels (Marriott, specifically) and "earn" 365 nights + various bonus nights. According to my Marriott account, last year I earned 467 total nights (but at least 100 of those came from the annual double nights promotion and another promotion). I think some people might like the nights badge to represent nights credited (which can exceed 365) but for me personally, I think the badge would be best if it represented actual nights stayed in hotels. (I don't know much about Hyatt but for Marriott Bonvoy, a lot of credit card partnerships provide quite a lot of night credits, and so it is theoretically possible to be credited for 100 "nights" despite having spent less than 25 actual nights in hotels. For that reason, I think the credited nights number is mostly useless, and actual nights stayed is much more representative of how a person uses hotels.) |

is there any way to turn this off? I don't want badges, I don't like it when the forum software "awards" me some dumb badge and it's automatically added to my profile without asking me and then I have to do a bunch of unnecessary clicking to take it off. this "feature" should be opt in or removed completely.
You can deselect any user managed badges in your profile but some are automagic. Just in the same way you can't decline likes that others on the forum bestow on your contributions. Best to go with the flow, it's the modern way of the world, like it or not. |

well it's incredibly rude for admins to implement some sort of feature that just makes a bunch of busywork for me with zero opt-in, why would I even care how many countries some rando poster says he's been to

Way upthread (well before you started complaining), our Community Director NWIFlyer had a great response that I think applies here too:

Let me give you the most diplomatic answer I can.
I don't take any massive notice of mine, because I'm far too focused on and appreciative of the great information we have across the site. [...] I'd suggest to you that it would be a very good time for you to return to enjoying the 99.9% of the site you do like, and worry much less about the insignificant part you don't. [...] In other words, it's time to leave this alone, please. NWIFlyer Community Director -J. |

Graffiti is generally illegal. This is an online forum that you are able to use for free and that you don't own. You're going to need to come up with a better analogy.
lots of people who don't own the building they have their business in or live in are also annoyed by graffiti, I guess they should just shut up. man you have got to be kidding me whether I own the site or not is completely irrelevant the point isn't whether the operators of the site have the "right" to implement this feature or not, this is absolutely the lowest form of analysis |
and yes it's amazing that some people like the feature I guess if anyone likes it then I should just like it too, why would anyone ever have a different opinion about anything? this world would certainly be a better place if we all just thought the same things and liked the same things. Thanks for opening my eyes.

Personally, I find the badges a lot less annoying than people bumping this thread just to complain ;)
You are entitled to your opinion but your tone suggests otherwise. This has been asked and answered upthread multiple times. Please point me in the direction of the dead horse. -J. |
Instead of investing time and energy into modifying the system to allow WillBarrett_68 to turn off badges, I have come up with a solution that should keep both sides happy. Just add a new badge!

the WB68 “Commemorative Curmudgeon” badge
:D :D |
While a "Hates Badges" badge sounds theoretically plausible, we must ensure further proposals are not thinly disguised personal attacks, in violation of FlyerTalk rules.

PS: go to: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/badg...?do=viewbadges then under "Badges Displayed", hover your mouse over the badge, click the "x" button then that badge will be removed. |
Username badges
My username says I’ve been to 10, 20, 30, and 40 countries. As much as I wish this were true, it simply isn’t. How can I go about changing this? I can’t find the option when I go to edit my profile.
