Breadcrumbs [Top-Level Forum Navigation Has Once Again Gone Missing]

Yesterday it looked like this...
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...9e883b743a.png
... and the item after each > was 'clickable' allowing one to navigate up one or more levels.

Now it looks like this...
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8161305191.png
without the > figure between each level and the levels are not clickable.

Seen on both iPad and two MacBooks running multiple versions of OS and Safari.

ETA: Similar behavior in Firefox.

TommyD2 Nov 17, 2022 9:55 am

Same.

Windows laptop running Chrome.

DYKWIA Nov 17, 2022 10:50 am

Same

MacOS running Chrome

Another great bit of testing...

AirborneLocksmith Nov 17, 2022 11:27 am

Seen on MacOS Safari/Chrome/Firefox.

Dave Noble Nov 17, 2022 1:02 pm

same here - very annoying change

IBJoel Nov 17, 2022 2:32 pm

A mod brought this up this morning as well and we are working on fixing it. It was not intentional

Exactly.

Same same across the board while on Edge and Firefox.

Bad bad.

full disclosure — I’m not a software guy, but I’ve been in and around systems engineering and test for a very long time

it seems that a big part of of these <recurring> problems is that, while test protocols don’t *intentionally* overlook use cases, they’re apparently not reviewed for completeness

Then you'll know all about the deadlines tech teams are under and how shortstaffed their teams typically are. Right now because of the PHP 8 deadline in less than a full business week, I'm having to QA a lot of stuff (I didn't do it for this site) in our department's portfolio and my experience is in marketing and social media.

To be up front all of you, I know how super annoying this specific problem is, because I also use breadcrumbs a lot, but it's looking like it will be fixed after Thanksgiving, unfortunately.

The workarounds I've been using have been the "Back to Subforum" button at the bottom of the page and the forum jump menu.

Thanks for the progress report and the suggested workarounds.

No bread pudding this Thanksgiving, but at least the emojis are back. :)

MDTyKe Nov 19, 2022 4:24 pm

Same; clearly a bug.. driving me nuts!

steveholt Nov 19, 2022 5:19 pm

Same on MacOS. Not my favorite.

I came here a bit wary about entering a Techno-Lions den! However I came about this specific problem which seemed to occur a couple of days ago, and it is such a bore. I found that it did the same on my Ipad. I use Firefox on my desktop as a rule as I find Edge clunky but on all these browsers, this occurred. Frankly, now I know that it is a known issue, I feel more comfortable. I had never ever heard the expression Breadcrumbs so I have learned something,

Top-Level Forum Navigation Has Once Again Gone Missing.

The ability to go back to the top level of a forum from the upper left corner of the page has gone missing - again. You now have to click multiple times in other areas to back to the top of the forum you are reading.

Is there a reason for this that I have missed?

Thanks.

Gee, thanks.

I started a new thread on this topic because seeing a thread titled "breadcrumbs" didn't strike me as being about the same topic. My thread was subsequently merged into this one.

intuition Nov 22, 2022 12:30 am

Just wanting to add myself to the list of people who are missing these links and am happy to see here that work is being done to return the links!

Paren Nov 22, 2022 8:09 am

I didn't even know this sub-forum existed until I started looking around for a solution (I rarely come out the BA sub-forum :D).

macOS and Chrome user here if it helps.

Your welcome. Not seeing your post before it was moved gave no indication you were aware of the navigation issue. Not sure I would call the issue 'breadcrumbs' myself but I'm not up on website design and such.

FriendlySkies Nov 22, 2022 10:22 am

Same issue on my Mac w/ Firefox and Safari on my iPhone. Hopefully it is fixed soon.

Good point and I added to the title. I, myself, didn't know that breadcrumbs meant this very annoying issue.

My apologies. I realize that not everyone is familiar with certain web design lingo. But I honestly don’t know what else to call them and hoped (apparently correctly) that the IB tech wonks would know what I’m referring to.

IBJoel and his team knew and understood - and, given the wikipedia reference, many others do too.

Those among us who didn't know the term have learned something new by reading this thread. Whatever the name they are sorely missed.

Agree and agree. I have learned some naughty words on FT over the years. This was a refreshing change.

Please, Santa?

I'm sure that IB staff will respond this week following the long holiday weekend. There's no need to keep asking :)

Thanks.

I noticed this a while ago but only got around to posting it now.

The breadcrumb navigation tool at the top of every page is missing a separator between the thread name and the sub-forum

Here's the example for this very thread:

Support&ServicesTechnical Support and Feedback Issues related to 24 October 2022 upgrade

Funnily enough when I paste it here, yes the newline characters exist at the end of the respective sub-forum links. So it's there, just not rendering correctly in the browser.

Also, this means that the sub-forums are no longer clickable so you can't navigate back to the sub-forum when finished reading a thread.

I have been wanting to post about that for a while. On my phone it ends up like this. Which is a bit annoying from a navigational perspective.

I think there might be another thread on this topic - you are definitely not the first to complain as it is driving me crazy as well.

ETA: aaaaand scene!

So this forum link thing is really starting to bother me - I have no shortcut to get back to the forum root from a thread by clicking the forum title that was once a link. Now it's just black text without the hyperlink function

Until this is fixed, please read the wikipost for workarounds

An update: FlyerTalk just got the required PHP update, so once we finish up the rest of the sites in the department, we can work on this. All sites HAVE to be done today

Ah is that why some threads are now getting

ArgumentCountError: 5 arguments are required, 4 given in ..../includes/functions.php on line 3127

Yeah. Are some still showing that for you? If so (and you hit the same problem in a private/incognito window), could you link me to a couple?

I didn't try private/incognito. But here's a thread where I just had the issue:
