Something that has been bugging me! [technical problems usIng FT website on iPad]
Does anyone else having this problem on the FT website only, I’m using an iPad and when I go to click on a link the page jumps and I end up selecting the wrong thread, it doesn’t happen anywhere else?
|
That is I think because of all the hundred ads loading?
Also I get the cookies selector thing that freezes etc. |
Happens with Android too. Clearing all active windows then reloading FT seems to do the trick.
|
Yep same experience for me on both the above on an iPhone and iPad - this site is barely useable on iOS devices using Safari.
|
Happens on android and to a certain extent on desktop too, due to the ads having different sizes and loading later. Maybe one for the admin board rather than the BAEC one.
|
The ads really make the site atrocious on mobile. The stupid videos that pop out and follow wherever you scroll...

I started a thread a year ago for the same problem

Same problem also. As page content loads page bounces up and down. When I think it has fully loaded and touch to select a page or thread will often get page movement that results in selection error usually resulting in some ad opening up.
Don't know if anyone else has thread page numbers in larger threads being masked by the ads on the right margin covering from top to bottom of the page. |
Are you using the Mobile or Desktop skin?

Mobile for me.

It sounds like an ad is loading after the others and causing the "jump"

For sure, but the question is what can you do to improve your member's experience ;)

We're unable to replicate on a variety of networks, so it is most likely device/connection speed.

I live in a capital city with a very high speed internet connection and with recent computers/devices, so this is clearly not the issue here.

How long after the page loads does it jump? And which pages does it happen on? Is it more noticeable on long threads?

I'm going to jump in here in favour of the admins. It's bugging me too, but it's like that on many ad-funded websites. It's down to the advertisers, and probably to some responsive stylesheets. Because not all ads are the same size, you can't predict the size. So when it is loaded, the browser will adapt and you'll get that jump. My 2 cents. The only way out of that is to have a subscription-based version of the site where there are no ads, but that wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

It happens to me when I start at the last post of a thread and then try to scroll up. A few seconds after scrolling up, it jumps back down to the last post. It doesn't seem like it matters how long after the page loads I start scrolling. Then I scroll back up again, and when going from the last page to the second to last page (or any page n to n-1), there's another jump - this time jumping seemingly randomly further upthread.
