Periodic FT issues (crash, Cloudflare, database errors) - DDoS attack, cf wiki
I've been getting the database error page constantly until a couple minutes ago. I think it started about an hour ago for me and was consistent across various fora and threads that I tried.
Yet when I scam the main page of some very active fora, I notice posting gaps of only about twenty minutes. Doesn't the site go down for everyone simultaneously? BTW, I'm using an ipad2 with safari. |

Started about 10m ago (the time it took me to get a response to Search and to post this):
Database error The database has encountered a problem. Please try the following: Load the page again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser. Open the www.flyertalk.com home page, then try to open another page. Click the Back button to try another link. The www.flyertalk.com forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them if the problem persists. We apologise for any inconvenience. |
I know there is heavy Denial of Service workload today but I'm getting more than my fair share of database errors in the last hour, so from say 11:30 GMT.
|
Browser checks and DB errors all over the place this morning.

Keep getting CloudFlare DDOS Screen
Just today when I initially visit flyertalk.com (by opening a new tab and going to the site) I keep getting a "Checking your browser..." from CloudFlare DDOS for a few seconds. What's going on?
|
Chaotic here this morning, with Cloudflare being a likely suspect.
|
I’ve been getting it when changing Pages in the same Thread. As for trying to amend/repair Trip Reports, forget it for today ... simply unworkable.
CloudFlare has also now infested another one of IB’s brands ,., PPRuNe. I’m getting very tired of waiting 5 seconds for this disruptive application to do its work whilst browsing IB’s Forums. |
It was definitely longer than 5 seconds for me when trying to access FT this morning.
|
Getting a lot of "Checking your browser" cloudflare screens all of a sudden. Extremely annoying.
|
I also see the CloudFlare prompt, and for a while I kept getting the "Database error" screen instead of getting the forum pages after the CloudFlare check.
|
I've also been seeing the database error screen periodically.
|
Same for me this morning, and both my phone and pc. The CloudFlare prompt is super annoying, as is the database error when opening certain pages.
|
Same here. It's really obnoxious and disruptive.

Not sure whether a thread merge is appropriate, as this Cloudflare thing isn’t ‘redesign’ as such. Just IT people at play, for some reason or other. Also happening on at least one other IB Forum. |
Same here. On PC/Chrome and iPhone/Safari. Very annoying. |
Getting kind of tired of cut/pasting every post into Notepad because there's only a 50% chance the posts/edits will work.
|
Add me to the frustrated list. So annoying,on my iphone and also on laptop with Chrome.
|
Report “Database Error” incidents here
This issue just started this morning. When I click on my flyertalk link it gives me a database error. I can click again and it will eventually let me on the site. Once in, clicking on various threads and/or my favorites also, sometimes, gets this error. Was there a change to FT over night?
|
LOL, actually posting the above post caused the error page to show up.

I've experienced it myself. I sent a note to IBobi.

There is some database instability this morning (PDT); it has been reported to Internet Brands. Database instability is occasionally a precursor to a crash and temporary suspension of service. It can be caused by external factors, such as a Distributed Denial of Service attack. (In that case, you maybget a Cloudflare intercept while it’s fighting the attack; this may result in a redirect to another page than the one you were on.)
If you are posting anything, be sure to select all and copy to save the information and post again if you get a database error when attempting to save the post data. Thank you for reporting this. JDiver, Co-Moderator |
We are under a DDoS (Distributed Denial Of Service) attack; this has been reported to Admin.
For the moment, if you are replying to a post or adding a post, select and copy your post content prior to saving so you won’t lose your work should you get a Database Error call, or redirected to the FT front page by Cloudflare, when you try to save the post. JDiver, Co-Moderator P.S. Non-contributive, disruptive or off topic posts will be deleted, as standard policy. |
add me to the list
both the "5 seconds" thing and lots of database errors. |
Tech is working on this. Thank you for your patience, everyone.
|
We've had tech working on it for about an hour or two, thanks for the head's up!

Nothing we can do about this one, folks. It'll stop when the attack ends.
Just FYI, we pay Cloudflare a lot of $ to keep the site up during these attacks. They're our protector. |
Checking your browser before accessing FT
Twice today I got a page I've never seen before: "Checking your browser before accessing flyertalk.com" "This process may take...." I've never seen this before and I was using my usual iPadPro with Safari. It happened once on a wifi network that's been giving me trouble today (but which I have used in the past) and now again using my iPhone as a personal hotspot. What does it mean and what is FT doing to "check" my browser? |
It is Cloudflare doing the checking. It is making sure you're a real human and not a bot. And I'm getting it a lot more today as well.
I'm also getting a bunch of database errors today. :( See also: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tech...os-screen.html |

There is a DDoS / Distributed Denial of Service attack on (at least) FlyerTalk and PPRuNe today. Cloudflare is a service that fights and suppressed DDoS. Until the attack is ended, we will likely be getting Database Error messages or / and Cloudflare intercepts - the latter can end in a frustrating redirect to the FT main page.
If you’re posting anything, select all and copy, so you don’t lose your work if you get a redirect. IB Admin is well aware of the issue and it is being worked on. Thank you for your patience. JDiver, Co-Moderator |
It has to do with Cloudflare...
See admin's most recent reply from the other thread:

Thanks. I saw that thread and didn't suspect from the title that it was related. |
Maybe a horribly stupid question from me, but what would be beneficial of a hacker doing something with FT?
