We haven't found anything, so it is likely a combination of factors that may vary by user. I would recommend using Chrome.

Any update here? I continue to get "This webpage is using significant energy. Closing it may improve the responsiveness of your Mac." on every FT page after about one minute. I don't have this problem with Chrome or Edge, but it's consistent on Safari. Thanks.
When you get the significant energy message, check the Activity Monitor. If Disnoted appears select it and Force Quit. After a while, the fan slows down and things return to normal. Quitting Disnoted does not seem to have any adverse impact. It will return in a few days to repeat the cycle. |

I was also experiencing performance issues similar to those described above browsing the site on my 2019 iMac (Mac OS 10.15.2, Firefox 72.0.1). No such problems on my iPad and iPhone though.
I installed and ran CCleaner. What a difference, pages are now appearing instantly. Running CCleaner helped but after a few days FT would slow down again, so it was a case of rinse and repeat. i was experiencing other performance issues with my iMac, particularly Finder which behaved sluggishly. This led me to think my Mac OS X system wasn’t quite right - while the hardware was new, the system had migrated over from an older iMac. So I scrubbed the hard drive and ran a clean install of Mac OS. What a difference. The system, Firefox, FT have been firing on all cylinders since. |
