iPad Specific Display and Related Issues
Title says all. This is not new, at least 2 years since it is a real pain to write threads/posts on FT from an iPad. As long as the text you are posting/quoting is longer than the typing window, you don’t see your cursor aymore after the first letter typed. It becomes so impossible to use the system properly that it is now required to type your text elsewhere and copy/paste in FT, but ten your pain is not over because you have a lot of formatting Issues.
Add to this the picture orientation issue for the hotel reviews. Come on FT : how on earth can you have such an unfriendly interface with iOS devices, which represent a large population of FT users ? |
I pretty much exclusively moderate and read FlyerTalk using an iPad (three, actually, though mostly on an iPad Air 2) using Safari (both OS and browser in latest iterations) and generally am not having these problems. Occasionally I use Chrome, same thing, no issues.
As a start, perhaps you could try clearing your cache. Maybe Admin will offer other suggestions. |

Reading is not an issue at all, writing/posting/editing long posts/wiki is. I have a very recent iPad (Air 2) with last iOS version. This has not always been the case. I said for about 2 years (so I had it also on my previous iPad). I don’t know if the problem started with a FT system upgrade or an iOS change.
I hope an Admin can comment or make suggestions about your issue. |
I almost exclusively participate in FlyerTalk on my iPad Air too. I don’t experience too many issues that come to mind.

We do test with tablets, but have not seen the issue you are discussing. If you can capture them in a screen shot or video, I will certainly review it.

Having difficulties with FT on iPad Air2 myself the last couple of days. Assumed it was to do with trying to fix bugs in the 15th Nov. Update. As you can see in the screenshot, the cursor and text is hidden under the top banner. The only way I could attach this screenshot was by adding it first before any text otherwise the attachment button was unresponsive with text in the reply box.

I have the same problem.as Saltire74 and also as you can see on the screenshot just above the text I am typing, most of the formatting options are not usable.

I never managed to attach the screenshot in my previous post by editing it (another bug) |
Regarding Ipad problems, on another thread, I previously reported problems reading FT on my Ipad when I finger-swipe to zoom the page (for my failing eyes). What happens is that the right-side advertisement migrates over the words and makes trying to read FT a very cumbersome experience. This situation has not been fixed since it was first reported a few weeks ago. Hope it does. Thanks.

I’m returning to FT after a two-month break. I use my iPad almost exclusively.
When browsing the new FT on my iPad Pro, scrolling to the top of a thread causes additional, earlier posts to appear for some reason, rather than simply making the page header visible. Can this be turned off? I regularly scroll to the top to return to the “My FlyerTalk” page, but that’s now impossible. The new behavior is very disorienting, and it’s not something I’ve observed on other websites. While scrolling to the end of a page often triggers an endless scroll (Facebook, Tumblr, etc.), I’ve never seen scrolling to the top of a page autoload additional content. I’m using Safari on a 9.7” iPad Pro running iOS 11.2.1. P.S. The new Advanced WYSIWYG editor also seems to ignore line breaks when used on the iPad. I had to return to the post and edit it to get these line breaks to appear. |

As to the First issue you mentioned, it's called Infinite Scroll. You can turn it off in MyFlyerTalk, Edit Options, Disable Infinite Scroll, SAVE Changes. |

Any idea when this bug is going to be fixed? As well as the one reported above, having issues with smilies from the banner when starting a new post. Finding that if I’ve quoted a post the smilies work. If going advanced, apart from the Attachment option, every other option is not selectable and even the attachment button doesn’t work. Will add a screenshot in the next post as it won’t allow me to do it in this one.

To my knowledge, this had been fixed (working correctly on my devices). I will alert tech that it is not. What's the iOS version you are running?

This has not been fixed. It is in queue to be addressed in a future software release. We will update as we get more info. See post #15 above.

Site nearly unusable with iPad and Safari
I don’t know when it changed, I’ve been away awhile. (It was when you still clicked next page to move through the forums, not the constant refill as u scroll)
But I find the site I nearly unusable on a standard size iPad under Safari. The ad bar constantly is over txt fields. I literally can’t see wheat I type at this moment. The dynamic page redraws keep jiggling the text. Please, you Really need to test this on an iPad. There’s more than a few hundred of us out there I’m pretty sure. Thank you |
By the way, Lest i be seen as an ingrate, Let me express my appreciation for the site at those run it. Just frustrated that I can’t use it in the way that I was accustomed to in the past. |
As this is a technical issue, we have moved it to the Technical Support and Feedback forum for input by the Admin & Tech Support teams.

I want to join in this. It’s terrible. Awful
1. My cursor and every ing I’m typing disappears into the top of the reply box, it’s totally obscured I literally can’t see what I. Typing. 2. I have no clue how long a thread is if I access it fro. Google. No first oage and no last page, just never ending posts. As a result I can’t find what I want and can’t reply to stuff. terrinle, utterly awful |
iPad workarounds
Hi, iPadders,
We realize there are some quirks to using the iPad on FlyerTalk. Let me try to help. First, we are planning to get this fixed. But it will require replacing the entire text editor on the software that runs FT. A big task. It will take time. Meantime, you can try this:
Good luck! Paul |

We already had a thread about iPad issues with FT.
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tech...ed-issues.html Maybe the Mods could merge the 2 ? |
I too have very annoying issues with IPAD and Safari. When scrolling it jumps around crazy within the thread backwards. I 'think" it is due to the over the top ads that seem to give my IPAD fits when scrolling due to not able to keep up with the ads loading, so resets to last starting point. And the IPAD I have was the top of the line one recently purchased at Best Buy?

On my ancient iPad with the desktop site and my up to date iPhone 8 with mobile skin I keep getting the pages reloading after a couple of minutes with the message saying there's an error with this page so it was reloaded. I don't have ad blocker software and I'm wondering if it's the adverts causing a problem. Any ideas? It's been going on a few weeks now. |

Try clearing your browser cache. We are not getting a lot of reports of bad ads, so it's likely at your end. Also possibly try a different browser -- firefox and chrome seem to work well,as does Safari.

Thanks, I have cleared the browser cache I think (cleared cookies and website data) but that hasn't worked. I'm using safari so I will try chrome. Apparently ad blockers stop it reoccurring per some users. |
