They're the same, not sure what the second set of stats is.

In that case, there are also duplicative settings fields.

How about the question on tagging a user whose username has spaces?

Just type it as normal after the @

Username is FLY GUY

type @fly guy

There are instances where that will mis-resolve ambiguities. For example, if there are users "fly" and "fly guy," and I want to say something about the first one like "That [at]fly guy is really brilliant," this will tag the wrong one. That may not happen very often, but designing a system with known failure cases is not exactly a best practice.

IBobi Apr 13, 2017 4:58 pm

"Not very often" is an understatement. There's no perfect solution, unfortunately, but this is not likely to be an issue.

Did I understand correctly that mentions and tags are the same thing?

Then wouldn't

Code:

<mention>fly</mention> guy
and

Code:

<mention>fly guy</mention>
achieve the distinction? (Except replacing the angled brackets with square brackets. It seems even the CODE tag doesn't "escape" square brackets)

EDIT: something I saw while previewing this post makes me thinks semi-colons might work too? e.g.
Code:

(at)fly; guy
vs.
Code:

(at)fly guy;

Originally there was a "tag" box above the thread where you could add a username and they'd get a notification just as if you @ mentioned them. We turned that off, because it took up a significant amount of vertical space. But the "tag" stats are still in the system and can just be ignored.

Still getting pop ups telling me about these new features...

Mary2e Apr 14, 2017 11:35 am

I started getting it again as well... I also got one when opening a thread rather than just when I entered FT.

I do have an ad blocker, but because I'm an ambassador, I don't get ads anyway. But I turned it off for FT and I'm again getting the popup.

If you can, screen shot the popup and post it for me.

For example, the cookies blocked from this page include:

c.amazon-adsystem.com
securepubads.g.doubleclick.net
loadus.exelator.com
www.google-analytics.com
ajax.googleapis.com
www.googletagservices.com
www.google.com
b.scorecardresearch.com

You can see those are all unrelated to flyertalk.com. Any cookie that's directly related to flyertalk.com would be allowed on this site.

Do you know which cookie it is? I can look for it.

This post had it all, but in the usual style of data hungry aggressive businesses it was ignored. It is not about ads at all. Non intrusive valuable and relevant travel ads can well be made to fit this very well focused community. This is however not about ads but about tracking me, and selling my identity and browsing patterns to third parties.

I also run a tracker blocker (not an ad blocker) and I don't intend to change it. If IB fixes their malicious practices and offers clean advertising, I will keep it on (assuming that the amount of advertising will be within the reason for a site where most value is created by the users not by the site).

I'll do that the next time I get it.

But, it's the regular pop up describing the new features if you don't use an ad blocker.

I haven't seen it since last week.

jt82 Apr 21, 2017 1:07 pm

I've just seen it again now

Mary2e Apr 21, 2017 1:31 pm

I got it again today as well. It's the usual pop up, and I got it when I entered FT thru MyFT.

I didn't get a screen shot, because, well, it's the same one over and over again :)

I'm getting the pop up telling me about the new features multiple times a week at this point, including just now after refreshing a page I already had open. The features themselves are unwanted, I certainly don't need to be reminded of them 3 or 4 times a week.

Screenshot included, although surely not necessary.
