Is it possible that when this is happening again to you - your session is over and you are logged out? The fix applied is very brute force - but it only honors your "I do not want scroll" setting if you are logged in. The login session does expire if "Remember me" is not checked.

Nope, I stay logged in 24/7.

I also stay logged in.

It self invoked a couple of days ago, but in a specific circumstance.

Note I do 'stay logged in'.

I had been viewing a thread on evening and had made a post. I then went away and later to sleep.

Coming back the next day my computer had gone into standby. On waking it up the threaad with my post was still visible, so I refreshed it to see if there had been further posts. The view refreshed but was now in "infinite scroll".

I went to check my settings but they had it turned off.

To be sure, I turned it on logged out then logged back in and turned it off.

It was then OK.

TBH, I can't see why, even those using tablets would want such a resource hungry way to view threads.

I haven't touched any settings and before the "fix" I never saw infinite scroll once I had turned it off.

After not happening to me since I last reported it on March 12th, this happened to me once this morning. I go into a thread, it shows as IS, I refresh the page and IS disappears.

Still happening.

What, exactly?

kellio33 Apr 7, 2017 12:58 am

The same thing this whole thread is about.
I have my settings to NOT use infinite scroll, and everyday it will change on it's own to infinite scroll.
Chrome 57.0.2987.133
I can click on a thread I've been following and it will take me to the first unread post just fine. When I click on the next page of the thread, it sets itself to infinite scroll.

Same thing happened to me once yesterday also. Click to a thread with multiple pages, infinite scroll is active, refresh the page, IS disappears.

Using an iPad Air II with the latest iterations of iOS and Safari infinite scroll kicks in irregularly about once a day.

RandomNobody Apr 10, 2017 1:03 pm

If you follow a link from the front page, the infinite-scroll accoutrements are displayed and they imply you're in infinite scroll, but it's not actually infinite-scroll enabled.

Clicking on the next page kills the IS cruft from then on.

I am oddly getting this, too! I'll bring it to our tech team's attention.

It's still happening and annoying as can be. Why would you turn on a feature that 1. Does not work, and 2. No one likes?

Tech is working on this. Is it happening to you erratically?
