Quotes and quoting

Now, this is just an example so I can make my point and not directed at this particular post or poster, that said, on other forums I frequent when someone is quoted they seem to have a function that only displays some of the quoted text and you have to click on it to display more. Can we implement a function such as this as threads get absolutely cluttered when reading them with this.

My example post is this.

If you get a lot of support for this, we could look into it. But I have never seen anyone mention it before.

I'd do almost anything to see this feature developed. Posters using mobile devices generally do not want to edit anything -- wholesale quotes or whathaveyou -- because it's slow not to mention a PITA.

Add my support for this feature. Many posters will quote the same, long post when replying which is not only unnecessary but annoying to have to scroll down through the same quoted post over and over. Some posters are good and snip or parse long posts but those are usually only the very experienced members.

This would be a great feature.

Mobile is a whole different animal. If this feature were developed and implemented, it would be for desktop.

That's fine and as the OP I obviously support this.

I would support this as well, seems like a great idea.

I suggest you take this to talkboard/Carol.

Quotes and quoting

I originally posted this in Technical Support and Feedback but it was suggested by IBobi I bring it here. So, here is my original post there:

There is support for this in that thread but I do not know how this could be turned into a function/feature on FT.

So, is this something that you can consider with a view to a yes/no decision please? Or do you need more information?

Thanks.

I have opened a new thread for this on talkboard.

I'm really confused on why IBobi said this is a TB issue. Sounds like a technical one. Also, while that quote is long (and I can understand it being irritating), I'd say a lot of FTers don't do the entire big quote, but edit it down themselves. Sometimes the mods will do it.

Cheers.

I believe IB's intent is for the TB to determine on behalf of the general membership if such an enhancement is needed.

FWIW, I am in favor of such a change as I believe it will improve the user experience.

It's never been a big bother to me to snip quotes.

Me either.

I have noticed a lot of folk in Omni (where the link in the OP is from & which only Omni-enabled folk can view, btw) have a tendency to do more full quotes than other forums.

Not saying it doesn't happen in other forums btw. It does.

I would find it more annoying to have a quote truncated & then have to click on it to find out it's one that was full. At least on the full quote I can just skip the quote & look at the response.

Note I'm speaking as a FTer & not a TB member re: my above comments.

Cheers.

How about quoting from previous pages?
