I'm getting sick and tired of this mobfree.click crap on FT

Why does flyertalk partner with annoying popup sites? Flyertalk is now basically unusable on my iPhone. Yes, Flyertalk is the only website where I get redirected to this popup site.

I have been getting the mobfree.click when on FT (mobile) as well.

kpbadger Dec 31, 2015 8:04 am

"Me too" for the mobfree.click which cannot be closed without killing the tab (iPhone latest iOS and safari). The first time I noticed this was mid-day yesterday and about 10-20% of my page loads -- including my initial search for this thread ironically -- are affected. :td:

All Disruptive Ads /Advertisement on FT - PLEASE POST SCREEN SHOTS

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but one ad is preventing me from using the FT mobile webpage. Keeps asking me to download a free app, and I can't find a way to bypass the page...

JDiver Dec 31, 2015 11:43 am

I've passed this on to Admin, and hope IB hasn't shut down yet for the serendipitous new year weekend holiday.

Sorry for the alien invasion. ;)

Hi guys,

We have nothing to do with the mobfree or other app store hijacks. Believe me, the last thing we want is to shoot you to some place off of FT.

This is an exploit hole that apple and google have failed to close, presumably because they are getting a lot of $ from these game companies. There has not been much we can do other than wait out the ads that are causing it, since they give no indication of which ads they are.

Thank you,

Paul

Thanks for the reply Paul. Will try and route all my mobile traffic via the FT app until this is fixed.

Happy New Year/New Years Eve!

Thanks for the explanation. It certainly makes perfectly good sense FT would not at all want to divert us.

Happy New Year to you and everyone at Internet Brands!

As I've said before, you could switch to using more reputable and honest advertising providers. You say Google hasn't closed it, but I've never seen a Google ad that does this. Only ads on sketchy spammy sites, and yours.

Stgermainparis Jan 1, 2016 8:08 am

Mobfree.click. I can't get to a page on flyer talk without it switching over to this spam site. iPhone safari browser.

Further to my message above, the multiple cascading error dialogs kept appearing as I traversed the site, and I was finally able to get a screen shot. This is pretty bad -- looks as if the ad may be trying to do something nefarious, and only because my Flash player is current was I spared.

Aggressive mobfree.click redirects in iPad

It took multiple attempts to even get this page loaded because of aggressive redirects to mobfree.click - "unlock this page to continue" spam. Happens when the flyertalk page is about 50% loaded as the ads are coming in. iPad iOS 9.2

Ditto. Incredibly annoying and disruptive.

That's exactly what I get. This page hits every time. I wonder if the ad targeting picks up mobfree.click in the threads here.

JDiver Jan 2, 2016 10:51 am

Ugh. Those are nasty!

Hopefully, we can get some guidance Monday.

very annoying. iPhone 5 with iOS 9.2. I view the website in non-mobile mode. Pic attached, if I did it right.

I'm getting sick and tired of this mobfree.click crap on FT

Am I the only person who keeps getting this stupid popup on my iPhone and iPad only on FT???

It seems that quite a few times a day I click on a thread or a post link and this stupid mobfree.click thing asks me to download stupid apps!!

Is this you, FT???? Is this some kind of crappy popup advertising you're doing? Because if it is I'm going to say it is the most annoying thing ever.

lazard Jan 3, 2016 6:17 am

I don't get any popups

Yup. The same thing is happening to me on my IPad. It's just awful.

xolinlevh Jan 3, 2016 6:54 am

I get no ads on my iPhone. Just banner ads usually for credit cards on my iPad. Havent gotten a pop-up yet.

CodeAdam10 Jan 3, 2016 6:57 am

It's annoying. It's irritating. FlyerTalk knows about it but they refuse to take down the advertisement banners in which lies the cause of this spam. Anyway there's a whole discussion on this in the Information Desk sub-forum.

I didn't know where to post this. I don't venture into many other forums on this website.

I guess "popup" isn't the word I'm looking for. Basically, I will click on a link to a thread, for example, and then it takes/routes me to that stupid website asking me to download free apps and games. and it only happens on this website.

I hate it. :td::td::td:

krlcomm Jan 3, 2016 7:14 am

I use the app on my iPhone all the time and never get them... maybe there is a setting you need to change?

Edit to add - I do have something quite strange that occurs when i use the app on my iPhone though... the "Delta Forum Lounge Thread - Everyone is Welcome" thread causes my app to crash everytime I try to look at it... every. single. time. No other forum / thread anywhere on FT causes this, just this one. Does it happen to anyone else?

App? I didn't even know there was a FT app.

No, this happens on the regular internet site while on my iPad/iPhone using Safari. And it only started doing this maybe a month ago--maybe less.

It doesn't happen on my Macbook using Chrome.

Yep, there's an app... I use Chrome on my Mac desktop and don't have any issues. The only devices I view this site on are my iPhone (using the app) and my Mac desktop so I'm of little help with looking at the regular site via iPhone or iPad.

mules Jan 3, 2016 7:25 am

Yes, I get it too on the iPad. I was blaming myself though which probably says something about my personality.

Where? I can't find it on the iTunes app store.

They have read the complaints. I'm certain they know of the problem. Criteo (the main ad provider of this site) is known for spamming the end users. That's just how they are but the fact is IB has chosen to work with them for monetary reasons and I don't see IB dropping them, nor do I see Criteo suddenly changing their sneaky and unethical business model because of IB.

I hate it too. It's gotten to the point that I am visiting FT less each day because every time I click on an FT thread I get it.
And after closing it I never end up on the thread I was clicking on. A huge waste of time. Get rid of it please!

Ditto also! It took 10 attempts before I could actually get an FT page to fully load. It's made FT absolutely useless. Until it stops I will not be spending much time on FT. It's too frustrating!

Interesting, CodeAdam10. I did not know about that information. Thank you.

Hopefully someone from Internet Brands will give an update with the latest information pertaining to this issue.

MtRoot Jan 3, 2016 10:42 am

Ad blocker seems to solve the issue at least on my iPhone. I haven't used it until now because I understand FT and other sites need ads to keep them free, but this is too much. Hopefully whoever responsible rethinks if enough of us do the same.

JDiver Jan 3, 2016 10:58 am

We've consolidated the mobfree.click posts into one thread for members' and Admin's convenience.

I'll alert them so when they're in Monday they can read and be apprised on the apparently widespread problems for those using i-devices.

Well, here's another data point. Been getting it sporadically for 3-4 days. Using back button seems to get rid of it. Using Safari on iPad, current OS

uclacolumbiaunc Jan 3, 2016 12:30 pm

I think it a malware rather than site issue. I had the monfree popup problem but I restore a backup to my last state. And now mobfree is not happening on my android device.
