How come this thread was still active? Shouldn't it have been purged into the archives???

(I see that Travelbuzz isn't purged... Wouldn't it help the board to ditch some of those 240 pages of threads??)

But travelbuzz has only been part of FT Travel for a year or so, the threads there are from 1999...

But didn't the archiving begin after the splitoff/creation of FT travel (which, IIRC, was created in July '01)?

In other words, TravelBuzz was moved to FT Travel before archiving went into effect. I think.

Sort of on this topic (!) but is there a set period after which threads get archived on FT miles? Or is it something that the tech guys do when they have spare time.

i.e. if a thread on BA, AA, UA etc has no posts since say May 1, 2003, WHEN does it move to archives? (And thus can no longer attract replies)

We only archive FT Miles currently. Although Travel has been growing steadily, we don't think it's at a point yet to cause trouble. Also, the archive system is actually just another license of FlyerTalk, where we try and match up forum numbers from FT Miles to their corresponding ones in FT Archive. If we're to start adding Travel (and later possibly Dining and Airport) threads, we'll have to add another license or find some other way to keep the forum numbers consistent.

We try to move threads at 6 month intervals, give or take a week or two. Usually June and December. So, a post from May 1, 2003 shouldn't end up over in Archives when we do the June move.
