Strange post counts for many threads
Gremlins at FT?
There are currently several threads with two or more pages that show an erroneous post count (for example 28 for two page threads or 68 for three page threads). Some examples: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum50/HTML/017426.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum50/HTML/017445.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/002980.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/002952.html I'm not sure what's going on, but I hope these threads aren't in danger of disappearing into the FT nether world ... |
Yes I too have wondered about this in recent days - probably a week. And it is on more than those 2 Forums too IIRC.
AFAIK every 35 or so posts - no matter whether posts are long or short, the thread [usually] starts a new page. Therefore a thread with under 35 posts should NOT be on to a page 2 in normal FT operating conditions. That is how I understand it to work anyway. There are FIVE multi-page threads on the front page of UA right now that do not follow that rule, so it may well be that Dan or FT amended the settings. That does not bother me at all of course, but as post above says, if it may mean more corrupt threads down the line, point it out for the record in case it is a bug that might need to be looked at? ------------------ ~ Glen ~ Come and visit the most ** FRIENDLY FORUM ** on FlyerTalk. Thinking about it some more - it seems that a new "page" now creates itself on the 25th post on a thread.
It just did that on this SQ thread here I posted to: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum88/HTML/000683.html And the UA threads can be explained on that basis. ------------------ ~ Glen ~ Come and visit the most ** FRIENDLY FORUM ** on FlyerTalk. As an aside to above post (can't 'edit' right now so as to combine the posts!)
It seems that an existing thread that has a NEW post to it defaults to the new "24 posts per FT page" setting. Prior to this it was IIRC 34 posts per FT "page". To test this theory I just added a post to the Baht thread, which was showing as 22 pages long. A single new post converted that to a 30 page thread. As it would on the WA threads etc if they still existed. ================================================== ======= [This message has been edited by ozstamps (edited 02-03-2003).] |
Preference problems at the administrator level; I've corrected them and rebuilt the threads. Sorry for any confusion.
It caused these problems as well as the missing edit button and "display pages x days old" errors. |
Thanks for the feedback, Dan.
