Editing
Just reporting that we recently (last few minutes or so) seem to have all lost the capability to edit our own posts.
Is this a designed change or just a glitch? In my case, pretty important since I tend to make mistakes from time to time that need to be corrected - for everyone's sake. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Sincerely, William R. Could it possibly be related to this thread, or is it just a glitch?
|
I personally would like to see the ability to edit one's own posts re-instated, please.
At this time, I have not seen any official announcement by FlyerTalk concerning the removal of the ability to edit one's own posts. |
Yeah, noticed it as well...
If people abuse the editing, why punish the rest of us.... |
I would bet that this is related to an upgrade of the software.
The front page of Miles has changed too. Probably will be fixed on Monday. |

Yep occuring "down under" as well. Hope it is just a techno quirk.
And yes, looking at threads more than a day or so old seems to show the edit function icon.......... AND it works. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ------------------ ~ Glen ~ Come and visit the most ** FRIENDLY FORUM ** on FlyerTalk. No flame wars, no personal abuse, no substance abuse. Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K.

Another vote for the re-instatement !!!
Or, at least an explanation where its gone ? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Re-instate. Please
I edit often for.. * UBB code * When I mistakenly double-post (rare, but happens) * Correct dead links when FT archives |
My money is this being just a minor techno glitch that Dan will not look at until Monday CO time.

Edit tool not appearing on the DL board either.

I'm actually in favour of this happening - you should either mean what you say or say what you mean. Errors can be rectified with a follow-up, typos are a fact of life on the net (you should get into an IRC chat channel and see some of the whoppers in there).
In some forums, several posters have posted all sorts of defamatory stuff, only to pop back in a few hours later and replace the whole lot - AFTER the damage has been done. Better off this way, methinks - although I would be happy with the ability to edit within (say) a 10 minute window after posting. Cheers, Dave |
thadocta; many of us are on the road or in strange places to use our notebooks when we get on flyertalk.... Editing at least allows us to correct spelling or mainly typing errors.

I object to people undertaking vendettas against certain airlines/hotel chains/car rental firms/whatever posting scurrilous rubbish about them and coming back hours later and changing it AFTER the damage has been done. Jeez, glass houses and bricks!!

I recently did one of those posted it twice. Would like to have deleted all the content of the second comment, but could not. Sorry to anyone inconvenienced.

People who use the feature for what it was intended should not be punished because of this. |
I edit my posts all the time because I'm forever messing up the UBB code, or updating a list, or rewording my post to sound less ignorant. Please please please fix it!!!

People who use the feature for what it was intended should not be punished because of this.</font> As I have said, I don't have a problem with allowing editting within (say) 10 minutes of posting. This allows you to go in and amend some UBB code, fix typos, etc. But as for the rest, you should stand by your words, if you did not mean to post it then you shouldn't have posted it in the first place. Perhaps there should be a mechanism for forum moderators to remove posts that are "inappropriate" - such as posts containing elite phonelines, etc. But, removing the "edit post" function is definitely a good thing, it might make people wake up to themselves and start taking responsibility for what they have posted. The missing edit button was unintentional; there were changes made to the admin that I've since reset. The edit button should be back in place now...

A compromise can exist. One board I use about same size as FT is www.cruisecritic.com
On that you may edit a post for up to 5 or 10 minutes after it is made. That allows you to correct a typo/spelling error you notice on reading the posted thread, or correcting a HTML link etc. After THAT period no edits can be made by user. thadocta's exampled person then is not able to totally re-write a thread from what it was to something totally un-related which we have seen happen in one Forum at least. ------------------ ~ Glen ~ Come and visit the most ** FRIENDLY FORUM ** on FlyerTalk. Oh how I wish a time limit was always around, so much garbage and the people who wrote it would no longer be around!!
