UA - Here we go again?

UA board seems to be down again?

transpac Sep 4, 2001 5:12 pm

I too cannot access the UA forum. Additionally, the performance (speed) of FT in general is so bad that it is almost useless.

doc Sep 4, 2001 10:14 pm

It's been fine for me! Am I just lucky today? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

PremEx Sep 5, 2001 12:33 pm

United slooooooow and often timed out again for me today. Funny that with only 8,000 posts, United is still having problems while MilesBuzz with over 60,000 posts works fine for me.

Michael at WebFlyer Sep 5, 2001 5:41 pm

Hello everybody.

This is Deal Watch day and that might be part of the problem. It's very fast for me at the moment...at least much faster than I can recall it ever being in recent memory. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Please help me keep an eye on it and give me your feedback over the next day or so. This way I'll know if it's something that is just occurring during our peak days of the week or if we are going to continue having problems related to other issues.

Thanks for your patience.

Very slow for the last few hours. Times out on every try.

rxziebel Sep 6, 2001 11:46 am

Over the past 3 days, the UA forum has been fine in the AM but slow or stopped in the PM (after noon). Specifically, this morning I was able to access the UA forum with no problem, but now it times out and will not let me in. Hope this info helps?

Rare Sep 6, 2001 12:49 pm

The United forum is doing one particular strange thing today that I don't recall noticing in the past. On the topic index, a topic will show a "Last Post" that the page for that topic doesn't. For example, at one point, the topic "What do you do when you offend others" showed up in the index as having 7 Replies with a Last Post of 09-06-2001 11:46 AM, but the page for that topic did not show that post. However, when another post was added to that topic at 12:19 PM, the page was updated to show both posts.

Another topic that is exhibiting this behavior right now is "Lifetime RCC access for $1600", which the index shows as having a reply posted at 11:30 AM that doesn't show up on the topic's page.

(Odd. The system deleted the first word in each URL text. Apparently it wants a space between the end bracket and the quote.)

(Hmmm. The UBBCode instructions say to "NOT use quotation marks inside the URL tag". But it does seem to work as long as there's a space between the bracket and the quotation mark.)

Actually, for me, while I can still enter the UA forum, eventually, much if not the whole of FT appears to suffer from a morning "sprint" and later day "maliase"

Hope this helps! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Good morning everyone. Thank you all for the assist. Yes, there is some helful information here. Please keep it coming.

I was just in the United forum and it opened up pretty fast for me. I'm on a cable modem how about the rest of you?

Say, now that I think of it...here's a nice way to give me an assist if you wouldn't mind...let me know what time you are accessing United ( or any forum for that matter ) by telling me your time and the time zone that you are viewing from. Follow this with your connection, i.e. Dialup modem, cable, etc.

Will you do that for me?

Thank you very much. I'll be able to compare different scenarios then...I hope. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

You've been very helpful and thanks again.

United down AGAIN for me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Also similar scenario to a post above, the evergreen "Baht Pass" thread on The Buzz shows a recent post as being made 2 hours back, but the 4 times I tried to open the last page of that thread, only a much older post was showing as most recent one from egarrett - posted 09-09-2001 10:37 AM.

Hope this assists Michael.

I haven't been able to get to the United forum in the past half hour. I am on east coast and using T1 connection.

moondog Sep 12, 2001 6:31 pm

I haven't been able to get into the UA forum for the past three hours (last post was also 3 hours ago).

cesco.g Sep 14, 2001 12:11 pm

Keep trying to access the UA forum all morning: no success. Has anybody similar problems?

Yes. I assume that it is due to dramatically increased traffic during these extraordinary times.

Baze Sep 14, 2001 2:32 pm

All day today (since 6:45 am pacific time) all of FT has been real slow and MilesBuzz and UA forums timeout on me. Have not been able to get into either one at all today. Rest of web is fine for me. I am on a 512k fractionalized T1 line at work.

phoenixitc Sep 14, 2001 6:20 pm

TRACERT at 7:20pm CST shows fairly decents times. This is either an application problem, server overload, or same problem experienced since most recent software upgrade.

MatthewClement Sep 17, 2001 9:21 am

It would appear that, while working, the United board is incredibly slow this morning.

doc Sep 17, 2001 11:59 am

Perhaps it is working, but just barely!

PremEx Sep 17, 2001 12:10 pm

United timed out my last several attempts. Can't get in at all.

And today even the main FlyerTalk Miles page takes about a minute to come up. Even from different computers (one with a T1 line).

no luck here, either.

Warrenlm Sep 19, 2001 8:24 pm

United is not listed in the airlines forums as of 10:25pm ET 19 Sep.

PremEx Sep 19, 2001 8:51 pm

That's funny because I logged on to FlyerTalk and immediately noticed a vast improvement in speed and performance.

Was literally sailing through the forums just like the good old days. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I then I realized why: United was totally gone. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

goldelite Sep 19, 2001 9:06 pm

Don't know about UA, but The Buzz is dead, so that may add to the speed?

Lavarock7 Sep 20, 2001 11:37 am

In the past couple of weeks I have rarely been able to access the United forum. I also have found great slowness for other forums.

I am on the east Coast, try generally from noon to 11pm Eastern time.

For example, right now (1:30pm) I go to "Airline Miles" link, then scroll down to UNITED and click.

This link is "http://www.flyertalk.com/forumcgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=United&number =50&DaysPrune=5&LastLogin="

After a long time, I am presented with the single drop down box of selections and the error "You did not select a specific forum or archive. Please go back and try again." I choose UNITED and click GO again and come back to this page again.

Hope this helps.

Of couse, now that I have posted this, I finally got in... :-)

With the strange results mentioned above, where messages appear and disappear, is it possible that there are multiple servers for load balanacing and some are not exact copies of the other server?

UA forum down all day

Shareholder Sep 24, 2001 3:21 pm

I have been unable to access the United forum for weeks now. What gives?

sendoisan Sep 24, 2001 4:06 pm

What chix and shareholder said. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

dan at WebFlyer Sep 24, 2001 4:23 pm

Yes, it's not opening for us as well. We're also having problems with the American forum again. Our admin is looking at the server and Michael will be contacting InfoPop again. We've implemented the suggestions they gave us to optimize performance, and it looked promising at first, but obviously there's something else going on...

Sorry for the continuing problems with those forums; we're just as exasperated.

sendoisan Sep 24, 2001 4:47 pm

Thanks Dan. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Community is also behaving oddly. The thread "Gay FlyerTalkers" shows 7 pages on the menu, but page 7 is inaccessible, and page 6 doesn't show any link to page 7.

Dorian Sep 25, 2001 9:13 am

I cannot get into the UA forum since 07:30 today...but could just prior. Maybe UBB isn't made to have >x # of users attempting to access one particular forum at once? Either that or the forum is corrupt. The AC forum now has double the posts as the UA forum but AC is opens no prob.

avgas Sep 25, 2001 10:18 am

Dan - as the UA Forum now seems to crash on an almost daily basis, ( http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif ) why not move this forum over there to save a few clicks for us? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

LAX 1K Sep 25, 2001 10:33 am

Or start from scratch.. put the rest of the files into the Archives (which do not seem to be working for me..) and we can "REPOPULATE" the forum http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Or you can fix it (but it is less dramatic).

dan at WebFlyer Sep 25, 2001 1:54 pm

I vote for fixing it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

LAX, what isn't working for you in Archives?

avgas, if we move this thread over into UA, how will you ever post that it's down? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
