Slowdown
Just wondering if FlyerTalk has experienced a recent surge in users? I ask this because today it has been almost impossible to get in and out of forums, or to even post items. I'm using a high speed cable modem, so things must be really bad on ordinary low speed phone modems.

yes - I agree - it is very very slow today
(but I 'entertain' myself, while waiting for Flyertalk, working on a Excel sheet on my second computer, updating my frequent flier accounting and used/future upgrade-vouchers, etc).

This has happened on Wednesday's lately.
The following was posted by Premex in the CATMAN-DO-2 Forum:
Ok, if some of you are wondering about all these duplicate posts, Randy has just told me that it is because DealWatch (the listing on WebFlyer of weekly EFare specials on all airlines), comes out every Wednesday about noon and their site is swamped all at once. This slows down FlyerTalk to a crawl as it is on the same server as WebFlyer. They are working on a solution.
P.S.
Would somebody mind e-mailing me instructions for boldface type and adding drawn lines to a post?

We always get plenty of traffic but have made a decision to go faster. We're in the middle of making a move to a Sparc web server which is getting up there. You'll see this happen over the next few weeks. This will be our forth server, seeking more power each time for the masses. Honestly, it's difficult to keep up with the demand, though we are also promised a new version of our bulletin board software in the next month or two to Enterprise Class which should also make another major difference. Web or not, not every vendor works at Internet speed, though we wish they did.
