on the boards 10% as much as b4.......

Well, since the board changed so much and got all these technical problems I have visited 10% of what I used too. Too bad....I really liked it.....

I wish someone @ FT was listening.......

Ciao,

Dorian

Dorian: I'm listening

I miss you and your great trip reports from months past.

I hope you will bear with the minor inconveniences, stay with us, and keep in mind that the good folks providing this service (at no cost to us) are doing their best to keep it running.

dgolds has a good point here Dorian. Hope you can be a lttle more patient.

BTW- Omni dgolds- The new free NT version for free alta vista net access using Windows NT was released for download yesterday just in case you're interested in a suitable dialup backup ISP!

I have not had any problems with the latest changes, but it would be good if some of our questions (policies issue raised by doc, search question by me, and other technical issues) were answered by someone - even if the answer is we don't know or we do not intend to set any policies. I miss Bryan's presence on the board.

doc - thanks for the tip. I have NetZero currently and looked into AltaVista awhile ago but they were not supporting NT then. Are they faster/better?

PG makes a good point. We are (indirectly) a source of advertising revenue here (i.e. the reason advertisers pay to advertise). It would be good, if polite, appropriate questions were answered in the same manner, as they used to be.

Sorry PG. I recall your use of netzero but not that you ran NT, whereas dgolds had recently noted that he did. Anyway I just heard of it last night and went to download this morning, but have not used it so as to comment on the speed, reliabilty etc. Incidentally, I'd downloaded the early Win'98 version upon its release, but have never used it either! It should be decent.

doc: Good tip - do you have a URL?

I didn't know there was such a thing as "free net access." Is there a catch?

The catch is the "amazing shrinking computer screen". Allocate some real estate for ads of the free internet service, some real estate for the ads of the alladvantage cash-back window, some real estate for the ads in the web site you are visiting, and a magnifying glass for the real content. No wonder doubleclick stock is going through the roof.

URL is: http://microav.com/

Dgolds,

Thanks for your kind words and advice....BUT, clearly no one @ FT is listening. The boards are a lot less busy now....anyone else notice this?!

Always amazes me when companies slit their own throats with an 'upgrade'!

Take care,

Dorian

Dorian: I agree; I just checked this forum and there have been no responses from anyone at FlyerTalk posted for at least the last 20 days.

For my taste, it sure would be nice to see any message, even one that says "we're swamped now but will come back to provide assistance on the 24th when we'll have some time to work on it."

All you wonderful people...I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.

I would like you to know that I check this board everyday and that I am aware of your questions.

I'm also not going to offer you any excuses because you deserve much better than that...just as simple apology.

Suffice it to say that we are working on the numerous problems as fast as possible. We hadn't anticipated such a warm and caring audience. The board has sort of taken on a life of it's own and is growing faster than we can keep up with.

We are looking into investing in another BB system. One that is very stable and will cover everyones needs. It will hopefully include real time chat, etc. The biggest problem that we face at this time is legacy data...that is, the posts all you FlyerTalkers have already made. We want every post you have made to carry over to the new system no matter which BB we decide to go with. We are very close to settling on a new system and then it'll just be a matter of integrating the old content.

Thank you very much for your patience and your support.

ThanX...
Michael at WebFlyer

I don't mind UBB at all as a product...just need it on a server correctly configured for....to maximize speed with great stability on a nice fast line.

The graphics and tabs that were added only work against these goals.

So many problems and so little time. Here are some nice solutions to some nasty problems:

(1) Ads- Obtain a program called ATGUARD (or @GUARD). It effectively removes ads and is a great spam filter program too

(3) Speed- Download a browser called Opera ( http://www.operasoftware.com ). It is very very fast, very adaptable and customizable. Graphics mode gives no (zero) ads

(3) The little "smilies" are cute but take up bandwidth. A chat board doesnt need these. It needs writers and words ONLY

(4) Info re "ad-free" ISP at- http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum94/HTML/000617.html

I happily use both OPERA and ATGUARD. It is a great combination, I have a full screen, faster throughput, absolutely no (zero) annoying ads and no silly mustard color either

Michael at WebFlyer- I see no good reason for "real time chat etc". Why get into areas the have even more problems.
