Interesting...Switching the protocol to OpenVPN made it work again. YMMV |
I'm having the same issue.
Blocking a known VPN IP address is not an effective security measure .. VPN use does not mean you're being hacked or attacked. FT should reconfigure their cloudfare settings again. -David |

I think this is the issue. In a lot of people's mnds VPN = criminal activity.

IB people, here's the cloudfare RAY ID
Error 1020Ray ID: 6d31cfcfcfd40941 •2022-01-25 13:22:41 UTC |
I'm also having the same issue
Ray ID: 6d3b3d37beca73f3 |
Whilst it might be assumed that this is some config change that cloudflare or IB have made to block NordVPN, but it could well be an IP address block on a wider range of IP addresses that has been involved in some inappropriate activity that has inadvertently included the NordVPN address range. Or something else entirely different.
As someone who has experience of IT Operations, and in support of IB techies, I cannot imagine they go around making random config changes and making configuration more complex than needed. Having posted the rayIDs hopefully IB tech support can get to the bottom of this. |

Still a problem for me. I reported this 10 days ago, and still no feedback from the IB staff. Unbelievable. Come on guys, show a little support for a user who has been a member of FlyerTalk for over 20 years. |
IBJoel could you or one of the IB tech staff respond, please?

Me too. Please fix this issue or let us know how to workaround without needed to turn NordVPN off! Thanks

Flyer Talk Will Not Work When Express VPN is Engaged
Recently I kept getting Error Messages and other warnings when I tried to go to Flyertalk
Then I turned my Express VPN off and was able to easily access Flyertalk Why would this site oppose someone using a VPN??? |
There's a presumption here it's a mistake.
If, in fact, Internet Brands have chosen to block those using a VPN, I would like to commend it. VPN's are used by people for anonymity to post hateful and criminal content. Social media would be a much friendlier place if VPN's were banned by them. I'm not suggesting anyone who has posted here is doing anything wrong. Unfortunately VPN's are not solely about watching Netflix in different markets and other innocent reasons. |

Why is it disingenuous? Other people might be using it for that purpose? I've not suggested that you, or anyone else in this thread is doing so. Second time I am saying that. IB is entitled to protect their assets. Again, if IB have chosen to block VPN's, I support that. |

The length of time here is irrelevant. I bet you haven't been using a VPN for 20 years.

It happens on a lot of sites. Just switch servers. I used PIA in the pass and currently use Nordvpn. As to why it happens? I do not know, but assume it thinks you're a bot.

Thank you

Flyertalk is deliberately blocking VPN traffic with Cloudflare, it isn't difficult to identify VPN IP addresses as most households don't have thousands of simultaneous connections to HBO or BBC iPlayer.
It comes down to why you're using a VPN Start at 6:08 If you need the anonymity of sharing an IP address with so many other subscribers that disaggregating your traffic is nearly impossible you're further ahead with a commercial VPN. If you don't just roll your own OpenVPN server with your very own IP address that will probably fly under the radar, although some websites block the IP ranges of cloud providers to block data miners. |
No problem here.
|
I have the same problem - with both AC and ExpressVPN (also using Open VPN servers with both of those accounts). Unfortunately turning off my VPN is not a great option as I am based in China. That means that without the VPN turned on pages either hang or load slowly as a result of embedded calls to services and other dynamically loaded code/styles on sites that are blocked here in China. The number of VPN servers that work here in China is also limited so I don't have the luxury of just choosing another server ... Very frustrating!
|
|
I'll see what we can do, but if this is a Cloudflare-based issue, we may have limited options
|
I'm taking a look at how we may be able to accommodate VPNs more. I believe it's Cloudflare and not us directly

OK, so we've added a couple whitelists to the site. The issue with these services are they use multiple colocation facilities that have been banned for excessive crawl rates.
So we're not opening up unwanted bad actors, tech suggests being assigned a static IP by you VPN service and if I those over to tech, we can whitelist them. (You'd have to either PM me or post stating that you're using your static IP and I can pull it form the post data) |

Yep, I'm having the same issue using NordVPN. FT automatically thinks I'm up to nefarious mischief until I turn off the VPN. And yes, the error message comes from Cloudflare.
|
CloudFlare blocks ExpressVPN servers/IPs for some larger counties (including the US servers), but using a server located in a smaller country works fine.

Connected to an Indonesian server, and it worked. Strange. |
I am now blocked from FT by Cloudflare for using StrongVPN. I use VPN when connected to unsecured wifi in hotels and airports.
|
Still not working for me yet. Using Auto IP
