However, few moments ago I tried to post a comment on the forums and I was shocked to see an automated response, a response such as "your comment will be visible after a moderator approves it!"

What violations did I commit to be treated in such a way? I really feel disappointed by this action, especially when no prior warnings have been sent to me....

Welcome to FlyerTalk; we're sorry your membership began with a bit of misunderstanding and inconvenience.

ALL newly signed up members have posts sent to a moderation queue if the posts contain web or image links or certain key words. Whilst this is a bit of bother to new members, the post is usually inspected and dealt with speedily, but as explained previously, moderators are selected and supported (with training and mentoring) volunteers with their own busy work, travel, family lives - occasionally, that can create disruptions.

The reason this occurs is that FlyerTalk, as any bulletin board, gets many attempts to spam members with everything from pornography to scams and purely commercial posts, or even embedded tracking artifacts. These can be much more disruptive, so in the balance of things the automated spam controls cause a few to have uncomfortable delays in early posts.

We're glad the issue has been resolved to your apparent satisfaction.

Forum post removed, twice!

Hi,

I posted a post in this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/sixt/...tions-143.html

but it was (for unknown reason) removed. Thinking it might be an mistake on my part or a bug in the forum software I posted the same post again. But shortly after it was gone again.

Any idea what might be the issue? I have no private message from a moderator, nor can I see any trace of moderator invention in the thread.

Hello,

Since you are a new user, your post has been considered into moderation. Your posts will be approved accordingly.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

JDiver Dec 26, 2014 5:10 pm

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

Your post went into the moderation queue for being a very early post with inclusions. That post has been looked over and approved by a Moderator; the second post also went into the queue, but was deleted as a duplicate.

We'll merge this into the existing thread on this topic.

Post will not be visible until a moderator has approved it...for an Evangelist?

I just tried to make an ordinary short post to an existing thread in the DL forum: several sentences, no bad words, no images or links, no smilies or icons. When I hit Post Quick Reply, I got a message in the lower left corner saying something like "Your post will not be visible until a moderator has approved it for posting....." and indeed the post did not appear when I refreshed the thread.

Is this some new glitch? It's been a long time since I was a newbie around here. BTW, I haven't made any changes to my profile or otherwise changed my behavior on FT. Many hours ago I started a totally appropriate new thread in the DL forum, but I've made other posts since then without any problems.

ADDED: This one obviously posted fine, in fact with no problems on the first attempt.

ADDED AGAIN: I think the post was in the "Delta Airlines 50% MQM Bonus" thread that's received at least a half dozen posts today. Now I see the post there and if there was a moderator in the DL forum, the moderator seems to be gone now. Maybe it's a false alarm, but I did see the "moderator must approve......." popup gray oblong window with the post not appearing.

Yes, it can happen on the rare occasion. I recently approved a post from SanDiego1K that got sent to the moderation queue. Seriously. It does happen, but very rarely. And it can occasionally happen when one responds to a post that has been approved - and they both get sent to the moderation queue.

both your posts in that thread had quotes, and quotes can do trigger it too

i have seen quotes trigger it, not sure of anything beyond that

How do you tell if a post is being moderated or simply failed to go through? I attempted to post something as a trip report, and I have no message saying it will be moderated, and my post count is at 1, with this one.

Have you read the wikipost at the top, above the thread?

Posts from new members likely to end up in a moderation queue:

• Posts containing a URL / web link
• Posts containing a graphic image or IMG link
• Posts containing certain key words
• Posts quoting a post containing a web or image link
• An approved post with link that gets edited
If none of the listed applies to you, you should contact the forum mod via PM or email to see what's the issue. Chances are you have hyperlinks in your posts.

Several of your new posts contained graphics links, so they were suppressed until they could be vetted by moderators. They have all been released from the moderation queue, which is why your post count is now five.

I started a thread just over a day ago and it hasn't appeared. I've read the new user/poster rules and I'm not sure which one I fell foul of?

Contact a moderator for the forum you posted in (they're listed at the bottom of the forum main page directory) and ask.

Passing by here, I see your post in the Asia forum has been approved and released from the moderation queue.

The Asia forum has one appointed Moderator, aBroadAbroad. She could be in Asia or in the USAF at any time, so she may be on a different time zone than posters.

We apologise for the inconvenience, but applying the moderated post protocol really prevents considerable spam from being posted and bothering everyone.

Could you please unblock my account?

I often surf this forum everyday and rarely to post the reply because my reply and post have to get the approval from the mod first.

Could you please check my account? Does this happen to everyone too?

Such as this topic, I did reply two times but never show up. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milea...-return-3.html
Thank you.

EDITED:
Thank you and I got the answer clearly. Sorry for not searching it before.

first post isn't shown

I am a new user, and tried to make my first post in Travel Product. After I submitted, i couldn't see what the page said because the words were too small on my phone, and the page quickly passed away. But my post wasn't shown up. Should i repost it?

Mwenenzi Sep 5, 2015 11:40 pm

Did it have a link to an external web site?
Probably in the queue for moderator check
Your count is only showing 1 post (that is your post in this thread)

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

We have merged your question into the existing thread on this subject. Please read the wiki (expandable, at the top of this page) to learn more.

In the meantime, we will check for moderated posts you may have in the queue.

Ah, yes, over in Travel Products! Your post has been released and is now visible.

Moderators are all volunteers, and it's quite possible the forum Moderator is out enjoying the U.S. Labor Day weekend; we hope you are too!

Hi,

This morning I posted in http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ures-here.html - because it contained a couple of photos it was initially held for moderation. It was approved and appeared fairly quickly because a few other people commented on it.

However I edited it to correct some typos and I suspect it may have gone back into the moderation queue - but nearly 12 hours later it's still not re-appeared.

Please could someone check?

Thanks.

PS. Updated - post is now back. Many thanks

Why was my post deleted?

Why was my post deleted?
Did I violate a rule?

I thought I worded it well, and everything was truthful and posted in the correct section.

It was posted for a few minutes before it was removed.

The question was about United Airlines compensation and I posted it in:
FlyerTalk Forums > Miles&Points > Airlines and Mileage Programs > United Airlines | MileagePlus

I was asking what to expect as an offer from the Airline due to a very delayed flight so I could understand if what they offer me is in-line with the norm.

I could read others that posted information about getting compensated for their flight delays, so why was mine removed?

I've never had to deal with a 29 hr delay and an in-flight turnaround, so I have no idea if I should accept whatever it is they offer.

Should I just accept whatever it is and shut up?

Yoshi212 Oct 18, 2015 2:12 pm

It may be under review since you're new. Moderators often review new poster's first few posts to avoid spammers and people just looking to have people plan trips for them (not saying this is you)

squeakr Oct 18, 2015 5:38 pm

You might want to contact a UA moderator

I see that your post was moved to the thread in UA "consolidated compensation etc" but when I click on the last page tour post is not there, even though the forum title shows it was there as of 11:21 AM , so it may be a glitch.

NewbieRunner Oct 18, 2015 5:46 pm

I have already alerted the UA forum moderators.

P.S. The post is visible now.

Welcome to Flyertalk Steve Myers ^

As noted above, new member's first few posts are reviewed "prior to going live" and that's what happened with your post however, you then edited your post which in turn caused it to go under review again. I have approved the post so it is now visible. Sorry for the confusion and again, welcome to Flyertalk

Welcome to FlyerTalk, Steve.

We are sorry you had this problem, but your post, once made, was essentially made invisible and sent to a moderation queue for moderator approval; it was not deleted. please read the wiki post at the top of this page for further explanation.

You can see your post, approved by a UA - MP Forum Moderator, here.

In the future, the easiest and most appropriate way to handle deleted or missing post questions is to contact the moderators in the forum you posted in. If the forum has appointed moderators, their handles will be shown in the lower right area of the main forum page.

For greater ease or if there are no appointed moderators, use the "Alert a moderator to this post button by clicking on the http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ons/report.gif button) that appears at the left of every post. This will pop up a form that allows you to send a message to all the appointed Moderators in that forum; if there are none, the message will go to FlyerTalk's Senior Moderators, responsible for moderating all fora without appointed moderators.

What we never do is discuss a post deletion - or any moderator action - in the public fora, as stated in the FlyerTalk Rules, here: http://www.flyertalk.com/help/rules.php

We hope your stay on FlyerTalk will be both rewarding and entertaining.

How many of my topics will have to be moderated before they are shown straight away?

I only come on here when I need specific help, and my first topic was moderated a few months ago, tried to post another now and same again.

It's not how many topics, it's how new you are.

It's an inconvenience, and we apologize, but you'd be amazed how much spam that requirement blocks.

It's more likely to be moderated if you have a link or an embedded photo, etc. in the post.

You'll soon be over where the spam blocking protocol will be a problem for you.

84fiero Mar 13, 2017 10:47 am

Is there some sort of new protocol for sending posts to moderators before being posted, for established members (7+ year member with 3,000+ posts)? No web links or anything odd embedded...just happened today and took me by surprise.

Was this a reply to a post or a new thread? Which forum was this in? Did your post include non-Roman alphabet characters?

We have had one or two reports of this occurring recently.

It was this post, which in the quoted text from a prior poster, does contain non-Roman characters:

I've noticed that in spam not that you mention it so it's understandable. As I don't write in any non-Roman character language I doubt I'll even encounter the issue again! Thanks.
