Connection to FT keeps being reset on FF. Please advise?
Not sure where to ask this so I hope this is okay.
Problems Loading Page The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. I have Ghostery and AdBlockPlus on the current version of Firefox in Windows Vista. Avira is my antivirus program. Everything loads in IE. |
There is a technical issues forum http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/technical-issues-386/ where you might get a better reponse

Thank you! Just what I was looking for.

Jeff regards, chrissxb co-moderator communitybuzz! |
Thank you for merging the two together.
I still seem to be having browser issues, unfortunately. Does anyone know what may be happening in FireFox? |
All day it's taken 2 or 3 tries to post most times; things just time out.
|
Been having the same problem for almost a week. Thought it was the updated firefox but I'm not having the problem on any other website.

Chrome not loading FT pages about 5% of the time
About 5% of the time (unscientific; could be more like 10% or more or less), I open a link on FT and the page fails to load. Refreshing the page results in the page loading correctly.
I haven't scientifically narrowed the problem down to any specific factor, but I'll make the following observations:
I suspect it may be related to -new-post.html but can't be 100% certain of that. I'll update this thread if I clarify any of my observations. Here is a screenshot of what I see when this happens (pardon the misaligned screenshot): http://c650942.r42.cf0.rackcdn.com/C...LoadFTPage.png |
On Firefox too!

Maybe this other issue is related too? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/techn...se-advise.html Since I have no problem accessing other websites at the same time, I always assume it's due to some small-scale system glitches and/or maintenance on FT, which IB doesn't bother to send out any public notice. |
Threads merged and issue reported to tech; thanks folks, we'll get on this.

Paul I will say that I only searched the forum for "Chrome" before posting, since I haven't noticed this happening during the (admittedly rare) times I use FF or IE. :o |
Maybe it does something to do the FF update? Ever since that happened last week, I have not been able to access FT from that browser at all. As with Crampedin13A, I do not seem to have problems with other forums or sites.
IE9 seems laggy and unstable for me so I prefer not to use it. Thank you for looking into this. |
This just happened to me again 4 minutes ago and FT was down for like 3 minutes for me:

Please report your browser/version if you have not already; it'll help us determine if it's related to the new FF release.
The Chrome issue may or may not be related. |

I'm having the same problem for the last week - really bad. It's not just Firefox, I'm having the problem also with IE version 8. IE gives a dumbed-down "unable to access website" error, but I'm pretty sure it's the same issue. I tried Firefox also. I've had no problem with any other website so the problem is neither browser nor internet access. It really points to a problem with Flyertalk itself. Feels like FT can't handle the load, a DDOS attack, that kind of thing.
|
This problem continues, over a week now. Is anybody investigating? It's making FT pretty unusable.
|
I'm sorry -- we are still investigating!

To try to provide some more details, and since yesterday was a light workday due to the holiday, I did some monitoring. Hopefully you can compare my report to the network traffic logs or something to narrow down the issue. This really is making FT pretty unusable as you can see below:
These times are all in EST, but you can convert to local time zone. 10:28 was able to view FT pages 10:31 FT stopped responding 11:31 gave up trying and went to lunch 13:15 came back and continued trying but still no joy 14:19 FT responding again 14:40 FT stopped responding 15:32 FT started responding 15:34 stopped responding 17:19 gave up and went home |
Thank you for the additional info -- everything helps!
|
Things are getting worse. During the last 12 hours, I got at least 10 Connection Reset errors when refreshing the FT pages/threads I was viewing. Don't think it would matter, but I am on FF, Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.27) Gecko/20120216 Firefox/3.6.27 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729).
Any particular reason why this happens more often, other than it being Feb 29 in Asia? ;) |
Tech has made some adjustments to hardware and software -- please report if this issue is persisting for you. We are not seeing it on our end.
Thank you, Paul |
Yep, still happening for me, randomly throughout the day.

Did a couple of traceroutes when the system was down. Looks like you have a bad router. See below:

Still having the same problem. Firefox 10.0.2. Took 4 attempts to get in to make this post.
I've used IE as well and while it's not quite as bad I still get the reset error message and it's really slow loading. My iPad with Safari so far hasn't given me the reset error message just slow loading compared to other sites. |
I haven't made a post in a long time where it didn't take at least two attempts to actually get it to take. And I've send more than one person duplicate and triplicate PMs since the system hangs so often when sending a PM and you don't know whether it was actually sent.
|
Been finding FT pretty unusable with Chrome and FF off and on for the last 36 hours or so. Periods of continual time outs, like for the last hour, followed by periods of normality. Rinse and repeat.....

I always thought it is norm for FT's behavior. :p:D;) |
After typing a message, I copy it to the clipboard. After clicking submit or preview post I can tell pretty quickly if FT is not responding. So I abandon that attempt, start over, paste what I had saved on the clipboard, and for some reason it usually works instantly on the second try. It's like you have to convince FT that you really mean it before it gets accepted.

Problems Loading Page
The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. During the last 2 hours or so, there are a handful of such problem episodes when I refresh the FT pages I am viewing. Very annoying. ETA: Rather than 2 hours, it's been happening all day long in Asia. :(

Early this week I was on a business trip and during breaks I was able to get into FT easily and reliably with my ipad on the hotel's wifi. Now that I'm back in the office, it's again hit or miss. For me, it "goes down" for minutes or hours at a time rather than just a few clicks later. It still really screams to me that there's a flakey router/switch in the system somewhere. It seems to work or not based on the path your packets take through the internet, since it was different for me based on my geographical location.
