Is there a screening of FT in China?

I am in Shanghai for two weeks and have found FT to be extremely slow in loading pages, more than a minute to move between menus and to threads. None of the normal sites I check out regularly -- airlines and hotels, Yahoo and the like -- have this delay so I can only assume bulletin boards like FT are intercepted, scanned and the "released" page request after page request. Anybody know what's going on?

China's firewall is to blame I think.

I was just in Shanghai and didn't notice such a problem when using an aging computer in my hotel's business center. The hotel had a mix of Chinese and Western guests, although the computer was observable by staff members. I found the internet service to be somewhat slow, but I didn't notice much difference between FT, CNN, and foreign airline websites. However, I didn't try to enter the OMNI or Asia forums.

I can imagine that one would experience the problem described by the OP in places such as internet cafes or private homes. As I didn't bring my laptop, I didn't try the service in my hotel room.

This is my question as well.

I am currently near Shanghai and there are pages that tend to hang up or are unusually slow.

When I use VPN, it is fine, which is the obvious work around, however there are many times where I am near a public pc and wish to check something and I am unable.

Is this the Chinese Firewall? What portion of FT is considered inappropriate for Chinese audience?

FWIW, I went to FT while in Lijiang and Beijing, and I don't recall any issues.

Thought I will update this thread.

It wasn't me but JIEJIE mentioned in another thread in the China forum that if you go to your edit profile and uncheck the facebook information then Flyer Talk works really quickly and normally in China.

After following jiejie's suggestion, flyertalk is as fast it should be.

china does screen a lot.

more surprisingly, even thailand for example screens some discussion of internal politics, apparently.
