Database error message

During this session, about every other forum I go to, using the drop-down box at the bottom of the page, gives me this database error message:

Database error
The database has encountered a problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:
•Load the page again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
•Open the www.flyertalk.com home page, then try to open another page.
•Click the Back button to try another link.

The www.flyertalk.com forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

Refreshing works, but it's annoying to have this extra step. By the way, "apologise" should be "apologize."

Cholula Sep 16, 2010 9:06 am

I'm seeing this a LOT too in the last 30 minutes.

lin821 Sep 16, 2010 9:16 am

Is system maintenance still ongoing now?

Almost every click on threads or submission of replies/RBPs brings me the data base error message. It also happened when I tried to log in onto FT. :(

For me, it started about 5 minutes ago. I thought the maintenance was over hours ago.

Is FT back to normal yet?

ps. I had to try three times to submit this reply due to data base error.

lo2e Sep 16, 2010 9:25 am

Got the same message when I first clicked on this thread. Thought it was a joke for a minute...

WIRunner Sep 16, 2010 9:38 am

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry9630/5.0.0.484 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/189)

At least we're getting a pretty FT icon now.
The mobile site seems to be working okay though.

Steph3n Sep 16, 2010 10:05 am

Yo IB, you broked the DB, it is giving errors.

This isn't maintenance, and I was about to get the real error when it worked again last time.

This was unrelated to the recent maintenance and the issue has been resolved.

Apologise is the British spelling, and vBulletin was initially built and developed out of England.

pps. I guess "database error" now has a new meaning on FT. Meaning it's very likely your post/s will go through even when the system says database error. The series of posts by cblaisd & me in thread are the evidence.

FriendlySkies Sep 17, 2010 11:49 am

Yeah, always problems the database errors for a many times. That's why FTs is currently still down for most the time.

Didn't know this, nor did I think about it being the British spelling.

Got a "database error" ever-so-briefly today, approximately 9:04am EDT. It only lasted about 10 seconds and then things returned to normal.

WIRunner Jul 11, 2011 1:37 pm

I'm starting to get sporatic database errors now in Omni. Anyone else?

kipper Jul 25, 2011 11:26 am

Received one around 1:15 PM Eastern, when trying to access page 2 of the TalkBoard Topics "Expectations of TB members communicating with members" thread.

WIRunner Jul 29, 2011 9:19 am

Got one this morning about 2 minutes ago, page hung, hit refresh and then the DB error came up.

Same here...

origin Aug 6, 2011 5:49 am

I always presumed this was FT doing a back up. It was always happening at aroun 9.00 am GMT. Then after about 10 - 15 minutes all was fine again.

IBobi Aug 8, 2011 11:37 am

Is anyone receiving this error for more than a short while?

kipper Oct 3, 2011 10:16 am

I received it for about 15 minutes late morning/early afternoon today, but only when accessing the main forums page.

kipper Dec 7, 2011 10:50 am

It's back, this time only when trying to access my PM's.

WIRunner Jan 8, 2012 4:51 pm

they're back. Trying to load the CO subforum.

kipper Aug 15, 2012 7:54 am

It's back when trying to load OMNI.

IBobi Aug 15, 2012 12:10 pm

Should be ok now -- it was a site error early this morning which affected all fora.

FriendlySkies Jan 23, 2013 9:50 am

The error is back.

wharvey Jan 23, 2013 12:34 pm

I got it for about 15 minutes late this morning as well. It finally went away.

MSPeconomist Sep 17, 2013 11:50 am

data base error when posting, followed by you just posted this message

Today when (instant) posting in the UA forum, I hit submit reply and got the data base error message. Using the back button fortunately found my text still there, so I tried submit reply again. At that point, I got the page with a box saying that I just has posted the same message a few seconds ago. Clicking to go back to the thread showed that indeed my post was fine.

I assume this was just a timing issue, with my post having been submitted just before some weird instantaneous data base problem. Then when FT tried to show me the last page of the thread with my post, the data base error prevented the page from loading.

dagrin Sep 17, 2013 11:59 pm

I have gotten this a bunch of times today browsing on Chrome doing various things on FT...

Close, no cigar -- a "database error" with vBulletin almost always means a failure to connect to the backend database (MySQL) server and not an error in the database itself. Just keep retrying occasionally until it works, then check for double posts.

I saw hundreds (maybe thousands) of them when I ran several vBulletin sites, never actually had a corrupted database.
