So, tech support, are we doomed to live with this situation forever?

Here is what I did to try and duplicate the issue. Let me know if I am looking at this incorrectly.

Scenario 1:
  • Go to the Flyertalk.com forum front page (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/) and click on the 'Mark Forums Read' link near the bottom. This marks all the forums as read.
  • Staying logged in, I close the browser.
  • Open the browser and return to the forum front page.
  • All forums are still marked as read.

Scenario 2:
  • Go to the Flyertalk.com forum front page (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/) and click on the 'Mark Forums Read' link near the bottom. This marks all the forums as read.
  • Log out using the 'Log Out' button near the top.
  • I close the browser.
  • Open the browser and return to the forum front page.
  • Log back into the forum.
  • All forums are still marked as read.

scenario #2 is my sop every time i leave f/t except that i use "quick links" drop down menu at the top to mark forums read vs the link at the bottom.

my forums & threads not showing as marked will show correctly if it is the same day but it is the next day that i have un-marking issues (almost as if something happens to the f/t db over night)

  • Staying logged in, I close the browser.
  • Come back a few hours or day later.
  • Open the browser, which is FT's home page.
  • Click on Points & Miles at the top where it says Jump to Forums.
  • All forums marked as read but bolding goes back at least a few hours, occasionally a day or two, before I marked the forums as read when I left the last time.

My scenario.

Use quick links at the top of a forum page and click on the 'Mark Forums
Read' link. This marks all the fora as read.

Log out.

Come back a few hours or day later.

Open the browser to login page and then My FlyerTalk.

All fora marked as read, but within the fora, bolding goes back at
least a few hours, occasionally a day or two. Sometimes. And not
necessarily in all fora.

violist May 12, 2010 9:37 pm

So ...

If you mark a forum as read, why don't the posts within that forum
get marked as read as well, that is the question. (It is inconsistent
as of now.)

violist May 27, 2010 1:59 am

So. If one marks a forum read, shouldn't the individual posts also be
marked as read?
