I don't understand, and never had, the mentality that a forum needs a certain number of posts to be viable.
Choice is a legitimate program (with consideration to nsx's post above) with many members. I, personally, joined this year, when I was falling asleep at the wheel and stayed at the only property nearby, a Choice property. I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and value and joined the program the next morning. Not all FlyerTalkers stay at Marriotts, Hiltons, and the like. Some stay at Motel 6, Comfort Inn, and Best Western. If the posts are few, they still will have value to those that go looking. I know that if I decide to stay at a Choice property again, I'll look for those threads and having a dedicated forum or subforum makes that easier for me. And with the world of Google, starting the forum can bring new people in. As Cholula has said, if you build it, they will come. If not, so what? |

A more fragmented FlyerTalk, that's what. ;)
(Other TalkBoard members may feel differently and I am not currently for or against a Choice program, I am merely answering this question.) It is more focused, in fact. I have no interest in JetBlue or any of the ONSAPPFPFPFPFP (or whatever that acronym is) with perhaps one exception. So I should have to wade through threads that don't interest me to find posts on one airline or hotel when we could have more boards and I could subscribe to them using the MyFlyerTalk feature and see only posts that interest me? |

Again, like I mentioned in another thread, FlyerTalk is not fragmented with the proper use of MyFlyerTalk to include boards and threads that interest me.

I hope others do think differently. I guess we'll see. Thanks for explaining your thinking, even though I completely disagree with it. |

If that were the case, why does the Best Western forum still exist?
It has way less activity than either the Choice activity by itself or the non-Choice "other hotel" forum activity by itself! If activity as low as the Best Western forum's is not low enough to "end its life", I don't see why "other hotels" forum should be at risk (after splitting out Choice). After all, "other hotel" forums would still cover TripRewards/WynhamRewards, Fairmont, the various Accor programs, etc, etc. How did Best Western rate its own forum and Choice not? (I presume it was years ago, before Choice had a program with lots or promos, lots of redemption and exchange possibilites, etc. But looking at them in comparison for the last few years, I've never seen as much acitivity in the Best Western forum as I have in the Choice messages in the "other hotels" forum. In fact, Best Western is unusually "high" in acvitity right now -- in relative terms only, of course -- because of the "rate Best Western" thread, which is a rare thread for any particular program as it only comes when InsideFlyer is about to do a review.) Furthermore, because of the lack of a Choice forum, many recent discussions that are as much about Choice as anything else have ended up instead in partner forums, such as Southwest and Amtrak. Add those in, and you have tons of activity! The point is not create a new forum for every hotel chain or hotel. If Best Western is so slow, then it should be in the catchall forum. |

I think it's dangerously narrow-minded to assume that the only 'correct' way to use FT is the way that you do and that any changes which negatively impact those who don't use your browsing method can be ignored because we should be using FT the same way that you do! Back on topic. Choice Privileges... While I'm sympathetic to the argument about gutting the 'other hotel' forum, I'm not convinced that's a reason for holding back from creating a forum if the demand warrants it. |

I think you made my point for me - you consider it easier to use, so we should all be doing it. Well I've tried it, and I don't like it. I found it annoying. I'll keep browsing FT in the way I prefer - and remembering in my role as a TB member that we all have our preferred methods for using FT and that there is no one true way.

I am for it.

Agree we need a separate Choice Privileges forum. I joined last year, they often have great promos, the tie-in with other programs is extensive, and they're just about the largest hotel chain in the world.
|
Having examined the Other Hotel Programs forum and respectfully considered this request for the past week I'm inclined to support a new Choice Privileges forum and have made a motion that one be created in the private TB forum.

Choice Forum
I am new to the Choice Program but feel it needs its own forum.
Maybe I would not have missed the chance to move Amtrak Points to Choice. |
