Geez, I'm getting into the fray on this one real, real late. Sorry! :o
I have a general policy of reading all the posts in a thread before joining in (a sometimes very impractical policy). However, in this case, I'm going to violate it 'cause I have a question, but I have to get to work! In all of this discussion about thread counts, has anyone mentioned join dates??? (I've only gone through the first 4 or 5 pages of the discussion, so I could easily have missed this.) In those rare occasions where I do look at a person's post count, I also look at their join date. The advice from someone with a high post count but relatively recent join date doesn't hold quite as much water with me as someone with an older join date. So, IMHO, join dates should be as much in the line of fire in this debate as post counts. It's not just the post count, but the post rate that matters to me (neither too high nor too low suggests more authority, but I clearly haven't quantified that). FWIW, I see this as nothing less than the marginalization of OMNI and am against it on that level alone (though I do understand the problem with the game threads -- I never bother with 'em 'cause there's way more too keep me occupied). I don't think OMNI should be singled out over other fora. Finally, though I'm firmly against the motion, I'd like to say that all that I've seen from Dovster thus far has been pretty fair and objective. And, I appreciate that. I see his motion as being a response to the community and not personally motivated. So, I guess I'm an idiot for being against the motion, Dov (:p), but I want to say that I think you're doing what a TB member should be doing. |

If you mean TalkBoard members I am sure all of them are quite free to post there?
Glen I had presumed your earlier question regarding the motives of the most vocal of the opposition was of similar broad scope. To reduce confusion, here is my original question (although technically not phrased as a proper question): Since the topic of disingenuousness is now under discussion, I'm wondering how many of this motions' proponents have been banned from OMNI. |

Agreed, but then all non-loyalty program forums should also not count.

That does not mean there is any motion to that effect pending -- there is not. I discussed it early on the private TB forum, saw there was very little interest in it, and dropped the idea. |

------ My above post was not meant as an attack on Dovster but more intended to prove the point that if one is going to focus on post counts then all non-core FT forum post counts should be removed. |

This is interesting because while Dovster admits that all non-core FT forums should not be included it is also admitted that OMNI is being singled out because if the rest of the forums were included then this vote would not pass. Clearly someone like Scott would speak for technology. Clearly someone like Jen would speak for women. Clearly someone like Oz would speak for community. Clearly someone like Dov would speak for religious travelers. Clearly someone like Randy would speak for ORP. Who will speak for OMNI? (if the TB forum were open on a read only basis, we would already know!!! ;)) [ducking] |

Which clearly demonstrates that this vote is REALLY all about whether each TB member feels OMNI is an important part of the FT community or not.

I'd think everyone understands the value of OMNI as a free-for-all type playground but perhaps the value of the posts therein are what's in question - as they regard to the world of FT. A slightly different perspective that I do understand will not be appreciated but my two cents anyway. |

my personal opinion as a member, not a moderator...
I think ALL OMNI posts (past ones as well) should be removed from a persons post count... then we'll see who's here for "points and miles"... we should be contributing to the FlyerTalk Community, not just a singular forum as many do. |

To channel Jerry Lewis(!) from previous MD telethons... For those who understand OMNI, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't understand OMNI, no explanation will suffice. |

No complex here (at least related to Web Forum post counts :D )
Problem is that while you dont feel that this vote is a reflection of people's feelings on OMNI there are a lot of people on FT who think that this vote is exactly about that. I must say however that this small population can generate a very impressive bit of noise. |
