And I like the ideas about seasonal/birthday smilies and those that are travel related.

Totally agree

With all the fonts, colors and smilies it could really distract what FT is all about, to put as many ads and pop ups as possible :p

I know, I know, I do have FT premium and don't see them ;)

Actually, this one  is "eek!"

I'll put in my 2 cents for not expanding the smilie choices, and perhaps getting rid of the rolleyes.

I ignore the comments of those who feel it necessary to change from the default font/color to get their point across.

I always thought that particular “smilie” looked like an electrical outlet.

I find that a shocking comment!

I don't know. I actually got a charge out of it.

I'll take your € and give you the same amount in $. Of course, that's not a fair trade. :D More seriously, the major currency symbols are already an option on FT, just getting your keyboard (map) to type them may be a challenge for some. Worst case scenario, cut and paste will get a bunch of such non-smilie characters to come over.

I think getting rid of the rolleyes is a great idea, since it is often misinterpreted, and can be rude.

I would support eliminating graphical emoticons completely from FlyerTalk. Lehava, for example, makes good use of pure text such as *gasp* and *grin* and *smile* to add emotional nuance to a post. I've never known her to interject a graphic emoticon and it is always clear what she means. Basic graphical emoticons lend themselves to sloppy interpretation , :(, or should that be :p?

Forget the animated versions. I contribute to some BBs that use them and rarely find them to add anything to the discussion.

Just my $.02

I thought that since we have a new Talkboard, they could (re-)introduce discussions on this very important and controversial topic. :p

I would propose the following:

1. Country flags be added in the profiles
2. One or more existing smilies be slated for "retirement," based on a vote.
3. A slate of smilies could be voted on by the membership, with up to five gaining in excess of 50% of the votes cast be added.

To those that don't agree with me, then  to you.

;)

Hey then a  to you too, buddy!!

Seriously, though, good suggestions.

Let's see what input we can get from other members.

Thanks.

I would love more similes, and the use of the [IMG] feature

I am totally happy with the excellent selection of smilies that we currently have, but would be totally open to more--especially if they came up with a wonderful "I had to fly in coach" :( symbol.

One thing I have been thinking about would be to allow avatars which would be limited to real pictures of the poster. That would be truly wonderful way to put a face with the handle. I have a heck of a time trying to figure out who is who at big DOs, and then remembering after I get home is just impossible. Personal picture avatars would be a great boon.
